  • 44 Flywheel

For any of you considering building a 44XS based D Mod, with the four coil CDI, I have an Aluminum racing flywheel (from a V-6) and a stock 44 service flywheel available…

The stock flywheel would be the ‘donor’ of the rope plate and 44 keyed hub with timing trigger, the Aluminum flywheel would provide the lighter racing outer rim with magnets and flex plate. One rim bolt is missing on the Aluminum race flywheel, dunno why, as I bought it that way… All the rim bolts should be replaced with shorter ones, anyway, as the ring gear would be removed for D Mod.

See my 44 XS write up, above, for the ‘how to’… simple bolt up, some assembly required. Torque specs are in the writeup.

$300 US + shipping for both flywheels.

Also have extra stock 44 flywheels, as potential hub donors. Also thinning my inventory of 44 parts, Stock and Mod.

    Drop me a note, tridentracing@new.rr.com

    • 44 Flywheel, afterthought

Should have mentioned, the Aluminum flywheel ring gear meshes perfectly with the service flywheel ring gear, so it appears they are same pitch...

        Thanks, all, for your interest.

        Aluminum Flywheel is sold.

Still lots of other 44 parts, thinning my inventory, new and used parts.

Drop me a note at tridentracing@new.rr.com if you are looking for something.

            • I saw a flywheel on ebay yesterday, but the guy wanted $400 or best offer. A bit high, but I don't see any takers at that price either and no offers either..

                  • So what kind of tool is needed for the flywheel? I have never taken one off yet but I am guessing if I try to fix my motor I will need to remove it

                    • Just ordered my ring compressors, what a nice guy.

As to that flywheel. Usually on a mod motor it is not necessary to remove the flywheel unless you are replacing the crank or upper bearing. I have used a harmonic balancer puller with grade 8 bolts many times to remove Merc flywheels. After tightening the thing as tight as you dare, whack the end of the puller with a hammer to pop it loose.

Good deal Dale. I just happen to have one of those pullers.. Yes the guy was very easy to deal with for the compressors

                            Try Craig Dewald cdewald24@aol.com
He's probably got a couple you could try. Let him know how heavy your boat is and how heavy you are.

Are you going to race it?
