Tell me this, how are you looking out for the majority by approving this engine in the 20 class? How is that setting a clear path by having two available engines? How is that helping the sport?
By majority, you mean Y-80 owners?

The Steering Committee had a clear goal of one "currently available new" motor per class. The people in that group and that support that group have not wavered on that point. The Sidewinder in 20SSH supports the goal of a single new and currently available motor recognizing the restricted 302 as a stepping stone to keep the class alive until the SW was ready.

    How quickly they all forget

The 302 was introduced to save the class from extinction as it fills a speed/weight range gap between C and A. It was approved with the clear intention to fill a gap until the Sidewinder was ready for full availability. Please remember the very sorry state of 20SSH before the introduction of a restricted 302. The class was on life support.

Some may see a restricted 302 as the short term answer to this class but it is not a long term solution to what is wrong with 20SSH.

The future of your proposal depends on the protective instincts of those 302 owners that have gotten a glimpse of success in the wake of the tier 1 Y-80's and are threatened by the Sidewinder. My question to them is: they can buy a Sidewinder today but what is the pricetag of your motor after a 2014 Closed Course Championship? What does the third place guy do after the second place guy ponies up for your motor?

I believe the purpose of the proposal is to increase the value of top performing Y-80's so that the current owners can dump 40 year old tired aluminum that there are critical parts availability issues for to purchase the next new thing.

Please don't try to tell me that preserving dominance; or even competitiveness at the highest levels of 40 year old motors is for the good of the sport.

      • Bill,
No disrespect, but you have no idea what you are talking about. 20 has never been on life support, and we would like to keep it that way.

There were plenty of Y80s running ( and ALL parts available from Ricky) and the Y302 was very equally matched and readily available.

There was absolutely no reason to introduce another motor manufacturer to muddy up the waters.

What are you talking about?? 20ssH is the largest class in Stock. Hmmmm.....guess that means we are protecting a LOT of trailer boxes.

          • Whats wrong with having a restricted 302 in 20ssH?
Never knew racing a yamato against yamato was such a sin.

I have witnessed now two season endings with the Mike Pavlick view from the beach or from behind the wheel. Pressing for change based on a perceived advantages and looking for ways to force your agenda. I have no agenda I am encouraging people to particpate in the process.

I have not called for any change to the rules in any class.

I have not asked for any advantage for what I have on the back of my boat.

Stock Outboard has a process, if you race in the category participate in that process to get your change.

You are too close to this issue to see the real damage you could do by one petition.

Because even though it runs extremely close to the Y80, all of our spectators and TV viewers get upset because they can't tell if the motor has a restrictor or not.

Don't worry about close racing,,,,,what people are really thinking is "I wonder if that motor is restricted or not..."

We better hope that the Public never finds out there is a 7/16" and a 9/16" restrictor. That will kill Stock!!

Life support? I think if you go back and look for at least the last 8 - 10 years the 20 class has had over 90 participants.

                    • The funniest thing about all of the controversy here on HR is that all of you arroguant boat racers can't step back and see what your personal inputs over the years have been a detrement to the sport, LOTS of rules have been changed over the years to improve one race team or the others outcome either at a race or the nationals,,,, don't even lie,, you know the truth, and it is and always has been within stock outboard, you guys are the problem,,, APBA and all there divisions should be governed by a higher power, IE. "you play In Our sandbox" like NASCAR, you play by their rules, not the most powerful family in APBA, it just takes away any thought of anyone being "inside". Me

Scott, I grow tired of your BS, accusations, and lectures. You continue to accuse me protecting my own interests, you couldn't be further from the truth. You have yet to tell me how the SW in 20ssH will actually help the class. We are close to 14,000 views and the best we have so far is " it lets people drink more beer".

So let's put this to the test. You list the new folks that got started with your plan, and I'll list the folks who started racing 20ssH in our area.

Sure there is a process, but the process appears to be broken. I feel strongly enough about it to take a bunch of your non fact based cheap shots, because I truly believe it is better for the class and Stock.

In the end, we are just asking for the right to let the drivers vote.

                            • Todd you are so full of crap. Tell me one rule I passed that helped our family personally.

I have given more to the sport in one year than you did your entire time.

Maybe you forget that I sold you a boat for less than what the hardware cost to get you nephew started and you *****ed because it didn't have a $20.00 fin on it.

This year alone I have loaned out more equipment to get people on the water than you can even imagine trying to keep them racing or to try and get them interested in this sport. Hell I even bought a junk 20 engine just to get more parts so Donny could build another engine for a local guy to race because he couldn't afford one.

I'm not the only person that does this but I certainly don't need a guy who has done NOTHING to run his mouth.
