    Good intentions.. and The Road to...

    Bill Thomas's level-headed comments are commendable. However the ''J" fiefdom marches to the beat of a different drum... which, I have come to realize, has had many more good consequences than naught. Still, they bear watching.

    I'm always concerned when we lend ourselves to the mercy of the insurance 'experts' because they'll do everything they can 'for us' if we hand ourselves over to them. Haven't we been screwed enuff?

    Cut suits. Tell me..., what defines a problem? What defines a SAFETY problem of such magnitude that it must be acted upon, right now (by the Grand Poobah) and another freaking rule laid on the books? Please... don't answer me here, call my Mom.

    Yup..The cut-suit issue started as a discussion of tatty, faded equipment, and the improper use of duct-tape. It rapidly took the shape of a "problem". More aptly, it was the solution to a Safety PRO-BLEE-UMM which did not exist. However, when talked about under the safety mantra, some folks thought indeed "inspections" would be just the ticket. How the "inspection" was to be done, who would/could do it, to what extent/specification it would be done to, etc ad nauseum.... hohoho... All of that was left up to guess who? Why the MFG of course.. whoever the heck that happened to be/have been. Nevermind that. To the folks with the 'good intentions' (ie the ones who would pave the road to --LL) it was indeed a safety issue that deserved immediate attention KA-BLAMMMO!! Nevermind, the fact that we already have adequate rules in place for addressing: appearance, behavior, breaking of rules, etc. Err ah.. maybe we do need one just for DUCT TAPE...arrrrrrghhh!!!

    So there I go again!! Spending vast amounts of my campaign funds on this issue. No problem... Mad Russian Racing likes operating in a kitchen where there's some heat. And up here in Maine baby... that's about the only place there's heat this time of year unless your in your heated sno-sled suit.

    Lock-N-Load,

    Alex

      [QUOTE=Kev43V;148234]on the 20 sidewinder motor...
      . Heck im not even sure I know which questions are the most important....QUOTE]

      Kev,
      Great point! What is the question that we are really trying to answer??? We probably should have defined the question before everyone chimed in on the answer.

        Cut suit fiasco again

        SO was the only catagory to approve the Cut Suit certification rule. The Maker of the Kevlar fiber has no standard to test the material in a finished form. From the Manufacturer of Safety Boat race wear their test was to be a visual inspection . (This seems like a good way to sell new products to me. ) If our APBA inspectors feel your Kevlar is not safe they can say so . At some pro races you bring your helmet and jacket to the drivers meeting and it is inspected as you exit. Without a standard to test to this rule is bogus. Hopefully it (and several others) will be eliminated ---very soon.

          Although this is probably way to late, I thought I'd throw it out there after reading the hyroracer postings concerning the new racer that is in need of a 102 coil.

          YAMATO-102C & 302F SPECIFICATIOS (CLASS C)

          Permissible Modifications

          Current Rule;

          18. It is permissible to use the Yamato Model 202 magneto on the Model 102.

          Proposed Rule change;

          18. It is permissible to use the Yamato Model 80, 101, 202 & 302 magneto on the Model 102. The top bearing assembly, starter rope plate and associated parts must match the magneto model used.

          Or

          18. It is permissible to use the Yamato Model 101, 202 & 302 magneto on the Model 102. The top bearing assembly, starter rope plate and associated parts must match the magneto model used.

          Explanation;

          This would allow an option for the 102 owners with coil failures. Also the owner’s of 102s that have converted their motors could sell their coils to another 102 owner in need of a coil.

          Although I have no hard testing data, I believe there would be no performance advantage to either or both options.

          As you may have noticed I added the model 101 magneto to the proposed rule, although there is no difference between a 101 and 102 magneto, I thought if one found a 101 for sale they would then know that they could use the 101 magneto on their 102.

          NOTE; The use of a model 80 magneto would be an inexpensive option compared to the model 302 magneto, however the availability of model 302 magnetos and parts would be a more reliable option.

                Kevlar

                Braxton Miller took a direct hit from a prop, at the so natl. It cut through the kevlar in three places and cut his leg in three places. In my opinion kelvar does not stop the razor shart prop blades, but it will prevent blont cuts such as being hit by the boat or motor. We replaced his pants this year, but just pray you don't get hit by the prop. Doc Miller

                  Most people know that kevlar isn't going to stop a prop from leaving marks. Kevlar however is the difference between leg and no leg.

                    I'll second that!
                    Shorts don't do much other than help see how bad your leg got cut... that much I can prove.

                      First let me introduce myself... My name is Dennis Burke, and I have been only racing for a little over 10 years. I choose to race CSH, and CMH because of my size and the speeds. I have been out of racing for a little over 2 years. There was a time when finances were not an issue for me, I could have purchased anything I wanted to race, but due to some stupid financial decisions on my part, I am just getting by.
                      I say all that to show that money is not my motivation on the positions I am about to state............................................. .................................................. ................................Ok all that being said I open myself up to criticism, and correction.
                      In my opinion we should make the sidewinder legal for J,A, and 20ssh now,
                      keep the Yamatos where they are, and I am uncertain what I think about D,
                      as the Tohatsu is currently a legal choice.
                      We must take advantage of Sid Bass, and Ron Selewach's (sp) unselfish contribution to our sport, and provide for our future, not dwell on the past or what is currently best for me and my pocketbook.

                      When I return to racing I hope to race CSH (with a new 302 from Ric Montoya, and CMH (a new 302 from Ric built for Mod), and contribute my time, and efforts to the growth of the sport I love, and miss so much.

                      Dennis Burke
                      Well put Dennis............any updates ?
