This isn't the first time I've posted this information and I'm sure it will not be the last either. The J and AXS classes are not, repeat NOT, part of stock outboard. They are universal classes in APBA, governed by a committee appointed by the board of directors. Any APBA club is incouraged to schedule and promote them.

on the 20 sidewinder motor...
I do not want to see us get in the position of ADDIng a classes. I can see it now 20Y and 20S, 25Y and 25S.
Big Don would like to see sidewinder "given" 1 class at time.
How many classes was the yamato "gave" when it was first introduced?
I could see limiting the classes we let sidewinders in at a time. IF WE PUT UP THE MONEY to build them. but the way things are?....
The way i see it is that we are not "giving" sidewinders classes to run in. Racing outboards are "giving" us badly needed new motors. But i also do not think i have all the answers. Heck im not even sure I know which questions are the most important, let alone the answers to those questions.
speaking of questions in 2000 what were the numbers in 20?,
had the other yamatos been let in with restrictors or was the Y80 the only motor?

Tohatsu D height
I would like to see the Tohatsu D height to be consistant with the 44xs height - level with the bottom of the boat. I have raced against very good Tohatsus in stock and 750 Mod, where they do not have the restriction, and I do not see a top-end speed increase or a lap-time decrease when changing their setups from stock to mod.

i agree with john. let all "D" motors run the same height.

I just don't get it -
A,B,C,D
If a manufacturer shows up and wants to make a motor that fits - for god sake let 'em in to play! How can that hurt? If you want to do some testing and make some rules to keep them even with the other motors in the class thats fine but I simply don't understand the logic that says restricting the motors legal in every class to one will somehow help numbers and retention. - just my two cents.
And for a third cent- mark my words - everyone is going to do all this testing to make sure the sidewinders are competitive (with the top tier competitors) (out of the box) and after two years (after they are declared official) of tinkering and testing the good guys are going to find 3 to (Idon't know) 10mph over the old motors - everyone in whichever classes they are approved for is going to need a sidewinder (who knows maybe the new boat design) to compete and have expensive anchors that were once good racers in their garage/shop/basement- now these guys are faced with buying new equipment or getting out - This is all good for sidewinder - but good for retention? Good for the sport? - I would rather we accept multiple motors in [U]every[U] class and lets focus on managing the rule book to make sure they are all competitive - dyno - testing, restrictor plates, weight - whatever
heck make it a nickel - approve the sidewinders now, let 'em sell some motors and make some money in thanks for their support - and leave everyting else the same - what's the harm?

Cut Suit Certification?
I'm confused about cut suit certification:
1. If J and AXS are not governed by SO are they required to have certification or only SO? If not, why aren't they?
2. What are the Certification Specifications that the Cut Suits are inspected by?
3. If a cut suit is less than four years old (recommended time to be inspected) does this mean it is grandfathered in and not required to be inspected until it's fourth birthday? (Invoice date as proof at race)
4. Was this a requirement by our insurer, and will this in some way effect our insurance rates? Maybe a lower rate?
I have seen some cut suits that look pretty shabby and maybe they should be replaced, but there apparantly is no recognized standard for cut suits. Maybe we got the cart before the horse and should first address the issue of a Cut Suit Certification Standard for APBA. This way we have a uniform standard for all and every one knows the what the requirements are to race.
As an example, the cut suit inspection in the meantime could be a function of the the boat safety inspections. This would also be a good time to collect formal data and work with manufacturers and the insurer to come up with a workable standard that is fair and equitable to all.
The issue of safety is a very important one and needs to be pursued and improved where needed.
I do not intend to offend anyone or question their good intentions. I think that pursuing this issue is important. It just needs some clarification.
