Cool
Hey Bluesky,
I have done a lot of carbon layup the same way. I also add one more step. Lay sheets of wax paper over the whole thing and then use your bondo spreader. You can drive out excess epoxy and get it lighter. It will also give your piece a "flatter" finish instead of the textured carbon fiber. It works almost as well as vacuum bagging.

Tip
You can purchase peel ply fabric at Walmart for sometimes less than a $1.00 a yard. It absorbs every bit of excess epoxy and you don't have the mess to clean up. I use it in my vacuum bag system. It is 100% Nylon material. if you do use the material from Walmart, peel it off after about an hour or two so it does not stick as bad. If you are not bagging it, it might peel off your carbon from the plywood if you wait until it is cured. It is a much stronger part when bagged.
The real peel ply fabric purcahsed from a supplier has a release agent on it, that is the only difference I can tell between it and the cheapy walmart stuff.
Even when I bag it I release the vacuum and peel back the peel ply after about 2 - 4 hours depending on cure stage. This is the Walmart stuff. Had it stick one time when I let it cure for two days, had to start over. I since learned to pay attention to the material by feel and not rely on the tags.Dave Mason

I like the looks of this KR Runabout. What can you tell us about it? Do you have more pics of it?
