Because Merc1 and RandY clearly do not understand the concept of an exaggeration to prove a point. I will be literal.
1. All other classes use weight to level the playing field.
2. costs of fiber boats are prohibitive to new members
3. 1 boat design will rule the class
4. wooden boats are being built as light a possible and it adds to the expense of the class (low durability)
5. people over 170lb have no class they can race in mod runabout that is weight restricted.
6. light boats ET better
7. like equipment goes faster with a lighter driver.
8. The rules was changed to allow smaller boats because no big runabouts were being built...to grow the class
9. rule was voted on by very small driver pool looking to grow the class
10. parity in competition promotes growth
11. no weight limit creates a slippery slope (see pro analysis above)
12. lighter drivers still will have the advantage of putting weight where they want not on the driver
13. weight limit would stop the race to get the lightest equipment this is very cost prohibitive
14. by building more durable boats(heavier) they could be used in other applications like marathons
15. the speed gap between 500r and 750r is too great
16. 750r and 850r are basically the same class going comparable speeds (Morris Light guy in 44ci and Luce in OMC heavier rig) check the lap times at the nationals
17. Having weight limits hurts no individuals chance at winning a race
18. blow overs and accidents in turns are reduced with heaver boats
19. Not changing a rule because it helps you and not the class is selfish (more racers are good)
20. We should change the rule because you are wrong and I am right.
I hope this analysis better than "I do not want to lift a boat and I hate change."
Sorry for the typos I have to go back to class....
