      First Series Race

I just got back from our first series race for the Ethanol Series. It was held in Somerville, TX.

The Sponsor was there. Very nice guy. The spot in TX was very nice, hotter than heck, but nice. The Ethanol guy seems very supportive of our efforts as boat racers. He really wants to promote the use of Ethanol in marine applications. He asked us to express our opinions and concerns to him and to be blunt.

We were able to shoot some video for production that they can use in promoting this. They had a decent crew to video.

Here is the bad part. The wind blew and blew all weekend. While we were able to test on the front stretch the back stretch was not raceable or testable if you went very fast at all.

Back to the good parts, the race committee did a fantastic job at setting everything up, and organizing things. The only thing we needed was Mother Nature’s phone number, as someone forgot to call her and order up some less windy days !

The city was very welcoming of the boat racers. A couple eating establishments proved to be fun and entertaining. hotel was 5 minutes away from pits, and camping was allowed in the pits if you wanted to.

The Ethanol Series is going to be a big deal for boat racing, as it is carving the future of our sport.

I would like to thank Fred Hauenstein for making the long trek from WI. We had some great fun all weekend with some good natured ribbing about orange paint and purple paint. It also looks like Mike's new CMH is going to run pretty well, and it has the Cliff Johnson exhaust package that is available for purchase.

Thanks to everyone that came. Everyone still received tow money for making the trip even though the wind cancelled the races each day. Where else can you get paid to hang out with some of the best people in the country !!!

        Somerville

Thanks to everyone who worked had to bring the race to Somerville. Wind made race conditions undesireable but that is what we have to deal with. Some times mother nature and the gods of the race site don't get the message so for safty of all we had to do was watch the jet ski folks have fun in the waves. NBRA is a great club to race with and everyone is there to help each other. Racing is only part of what this club is. Our sport has been in decline for some years and now it looks like we will be able to do a little to bring it back thanks to Vernon. I support the sponcer and his efforts to get involved with NBRA and the sport. We all need to keep in step with the times so I am in the process of building a big still to support my habit! All I need now is a good supply of corn.

          Ethanol

We did get to test our Tohatsu & E mod Merc using ethanol on Fri. before the winds stopped everything. No problems, both engines performed well. Could not detect any difference in performance. The testing system that is being used was not a hassle, and went pretty smooth. Just want to thank LSORA for the effort. The tow money was a big plus. It paid for over half the gas we used to travel the 1650 mile round trip from St Louis and back.

Garnett Kansas is on hwy 59 and where 169 meet. I-35 is west of Garnett about 20 miles and from OTTAWA going south on 59 takes right to it .
