To buy a new motor or not to buy a new motor?
Lets look at an A Stock driver starting back at the beginning in the 1950's:
1. Mercury KG-4
2. OMC
Now check out an A Alky driver, same thing from the 50's:
1. Johnson KR
2. Mercury KG-4
3. Champion Hot Rod
4. Quincy/Merc
5. Konig HRA
6/7. Anzani or Harrison
8. Quincy Looper
9. Konig FA
10. Quincy Z
11. Yamato Piston Port
12. Yamato Reed Valve
13. Konig VA
14/15. Harrison-Yamaha or Schmidt-Kawasaki
16/1718. Rossi, VRP, or Arens
So looking back at over a half of a Century the A stock driver has needed two motors while the A (aka Pro 250) driver in the alcohol ranks could have had as many as Eighteen.
If I were a Stock driver I would welcome the new Sidewinder. And the price is in line with the cost of a new Pro motor.
However I do have to add that on the Pro side we also have C-Service. Where someone, back in the 1930's bought a Speeditwin and today, five generations later, the Great-Great Grandson is still racing it:
1. Speeditwin.
