    Pete,
The Bezoat still looks the same. I was so caught up in the day I didn't take a single picture. I'll get some from friends I'm sure and I'll post a couple up here.

I ran synthetic 75-90 gear oil and will change it between each use.

Sounds like coming along well. Post a pic of the scrap pile boat. On any gear case work with new bearings, etc after 1st use I check the oil condition to see of all well and no bad stuff like water and metal in the oil. What oil brand and weight gear oil did you use, full syn or other?

Local run was yesterday, we had an abundance of wind with white caps on the course for a good part of the day. Morning testing was ok.
But when us bsh boats went out for a run a rookies driver flipped his boat trying to make it to the clock.

I made a few small changes to the set up but ultimately ran at 1” below to make sure I was getting lots of water. No cooling issues bites with the motor even on a 5 lap race. Still think there’s a little more power to be had but I was able to show that the boat is competitive when I had a deck to deck run for the lead for 3 laps with a much more experienced racer.

The basket case motor and scrap pile boat worked great. Now we need to work on the driver.

I had not considered tuck affecting water pick up…another thing to look into.

Also I have the two mag locks on each side each held by two bolts. They don’t seem to me quite enough, we knocked the mag my accident and it moved after setting timing last time. I’m sure I can make what I have work.

Luc TJ has mag locks, one on each side under the mag. When it comes to water feed pickup that unshaped foot could be a problem at the higher prop shaft heights as well as the transom angle and prop shaft level or kicked in.
    Happy testing

Another piece fixed, time to fix a stripped out transom clamp. Then set timing and find a better way to lock the mag down. The two hold downs are not sufficient to hold it in place and the forward locking mechanism is MIA.

Doug and you have been my primary technical advisors. He has provided great info to me when I ask him the right question and well earned criticism when I express ideas that aren't based in good info.

Hopefully testing next to see if we can pinpoint why the motor still moving water very well. We're going to try a new prop, a new boat, then we start making changes to the hull.

Luc That is good to flatten the case contact surface, grease is for the minor scratched and divots, need a good seal at the bearing circumference especially where the case is thin walled. FYI the Y80 champ racer I note above in comment 253.3 is Doug Andrews, he mentioned your name Luc on Y80 stuff (maybe another Luc?) in emails we shared on the Y80 tech items.

I did take the opportunity when the studs were out to take out some of the high spots with a piece of flat bar.
Not as good as having it levelled in a mill but once again I’m going for improvement not perfection.

Yes like butta! Get a good seal with the gear case to the tower, I swab the seal gasket both sides with thin coat of grease, no stick and good for any irregularities in mate surfaces.

I’ve tried 3 times to embed this video but alas here’s a link.

Time to do some shaping I think.

The end, good show Luc. I use a small dab of red thread lock on that pinion gear nut and also on the prop shaft gear nut as extra precaution.

I just removed the single metal shield on top bearing for better oil movement to bearing and top seal lip, that area is a dead end design. Pinion shaft seal in tower still there. A champ winning Y80 racer I have conversations with also removes shield. Those metal shields are not sealed to small dirt particles and somewhat restrict oil to top bearing and seal lip. When the gear case is bolted to the tower the entire assembly is sealed from all outside debris.

Correct boss, bottom shield was removed.

Wait, do you mean you removed both seals and added another on top to get more oil to the top bearing ?

    Top shield only.
On my Y80 no shield, better oiling to the bearing and seal lip since a cul de sac dead end design
Working...
