    Back the gas truck up

Kelly, I only heard about a fuel DQ, and was curious what happened. Being an inspector and mechanic I know fuel is a huge part of how well your engine runs.....but saying he had to run crap fuel, do you mean pump gas and oil like the rule book states. Not everyone can be a chemist and doctor up thier own fuel, and I'm not saying Joe did or does, but smell is a dead give away of something else in the mix. If his fuel passed all the tests then he shouldn't have been DQ'd at all in the first place.

I, for one, had a good time at the nationals. I didn't qualify in any of my classes but I still had a good time racing against everyone and seeing everyone. There were hiccups from time to time but that occurs at every race. No club or group of individuals can run a race perfectly, there are to many obsticles, but I think the race was run well. As some people have mentioined to me, there was always a backup plan when a hiccup occured and that is key. Reflect on the positives and not the negatives.

We tried to implement that in Mod last year, but for some reason some of the people who have been caught cheating a lot were some of the ones voting on the rule implementation... imagine that..............

Cheaters are really jerks. They think of winning by cheating with as much pride as a person doing everything by the book. Disgusting display of sportsmenship if you ask me.

If you are the expert you claim to be you'd know that gasoline isn't the same in each locale ... the smell of it here in Maryland varies quite a bit depending on whether you buy it in the mountains in the west, in the cities and suburbs in the central area or out on the sparsely populated farm and marshland central plain in the east. Different "smell" doesn't mean it didn't come from a pump beside some road.

Some people call it a "chop", some peolple call it "not lettin you inside", if you are afraid of being "chopped" dont take the inside, there is alot of race course to choose from.

Sam, I never claimed to be an "expert" on fuel, I said fuel is a factor on how well an engine runs. I run nothing more than Chevron regular and John/Evin oil, so I don't have any experience in doctoring up my fuel. Most fuels, without alcohol, smell very similar, (that's the main difference between city and suburb fuel, but alcohol sets off the fuel meter). A synthetic oil can change the way a mix smells, some premium fuels have a different odor.
This is a hot topic because as fuel prices rise, oil companies and gas stations will change/add to the gas to make it cheaper and more profitable.
I have tested a lot of fuel and I have NEVER tried to DQ someone for the smell of thier fuel.

The best thing is to wait until the fuel sample that was taken in the 20ssH gets back from the lab. Until then this is all speculation. But, the fact of the matter is, this wasn't just a funny smelling fuel. People were complaining that their eyes were burning when they opened the tanks, and others were complaining of being sick after being around this fuel. All questions will be answered after the tests are taken.

My fuel ran so close that I couldnt use it and had to go up to the Mobil station and buy it there. I brought the fuel from home same fuel I have used for two years and from the same station same oil to and never had a problem with it testing ok but could only get it to read a minuse 5 or 6 but the high test Mobil from there read a plus 65. I live out in the sticks not close to the cities and have used high test Shell and Penzoil blend without any trouble passing. In a stock compression motor I dont care what grade you use you wont see a bit of differance in speed unless the stock compression is higher and needs the higher octane to keep from pre ign. As far as cheap off brand gas stations they get their fuel from a major oil company from the same pipes as the brand gas I know I worked for a major oil company for 15 years. Plus if a station itself tries mixing gas and get caught its a big fine with jail time and with the way the EPA is checking there is more of a chance of getting caught then before. All I know it was a pain being stuck with 6 gal of mixed gas and no where to put it when it was just stock pump gas and oil not to mention the cost of buying more gas.

I think for future nationals we need to adopt the same fuel testing method that was implimented at the mod nationals this year. Everyone that raced had a fuel sample taken and it was sent out to be tested. This way we have a fair playing field across the board. Jeff Williams is a firm believer that there have been fuel violations that pass the digitron meter. He tested all fuels at the Dayton record runs a couple years ago and found violators. This was before we adopted the current rules we have currently. Mike

                                Race committee

It is tough to do it all , good luck paying for turn judge replacemnts and I am really not sure about sending pump gas to NASA WE ARE RACING WITH VERY LITTLE HELP IF NOT ANY AT ALL , what ever your race committee puts together for you, you should be very thankful . But a word of caution region members at a region race no matter what - if it is nats, winter nat or ect run it by yourself for your club only good luck to all and try to have fun Also I know you Joe ( Mr Pater ) I know you have Kevin , But you know your the man, and congrats
