This is nothing new, in the late 1960 they had the Liquid 1/4 mile run. It was open to all APBA classes. It lasted about 2 years.

On another note, Sean McKean set his Kilo record with his competition boat. Only changes were lower unit gear ratio, (over drive) and the removal of fins.

I like the idea of the quarter mile being different than the kilo, but like Montana Mike posted earlier what's to prevent someone from running a race in a kilo boat just to have that under their belt so they can run it in the 1/4 mi?
no way to change the way the rules are right now, as it should be. They can be "ammended" during the National Meeting..........

and I also agree, there should be no special 1/4 mile "kilo" boats also..............also think the length of the "shoot" should be minimized.....

I do like the "modified version" of receiving HOC points for a 1/4mile record better though, as you must beat the "fastest" (1 2/3mile) closed course record speed by 10% to receive HOC points...

looks like we have quite a few guys going at the 1/4mile stock and mod records this weekend at D-Lake......

Well don't do that. I'd have to buy rigs for a $1 and sell them back for a $1. I'd have at least $5 tied up over the course of a weekend.

We figured we'd see a few members from Reed Racing Hulls in WV this weekend but we turned out to be wrong. Too bad, the CSH record would have been fun to race for. Next year I guess...

oh we could probably come up with a rule for that too...

            Final Decision

Thanks Sean...appreciate the kind words! We worked hard and had a great time going for it.

Back to the question that many of us still have.... What is the rule regarding 1/4 Mile boats? And who makes the final decision on boat legality??

Not trying to stir the pot, just trying to ensure clear rules for everyone to follow and hopefully avoid future headaches.

                    Can I run my boat?

Just hit the Idaho boarder on our way to Devils Lake, Just wanted to make sure we could run our new 1/4 mile record boat, We have not been able to race it this year in competition since we just pulled it off the jig, but it does meet all of the specifications for the BSR class. Just want to make sure we can run. It would be a long 48 hour ride back to New Jersey. Thanks for the help

Why are you driving all the way there when you could have just driven to WV last weekend? You were already registered too!

I woke up at 6 am Sunday morning thinking you'd be there, only to be disappointed...

Had a game, you know how college coaches get when you tell them your going to jump on a high powered piece of ply wood, and then try to go as fast as you can.

Turn around. The parity committee met this evening and changed a few rules. You have to run a boat that was built and race ready by 9 21 13. Try again next year.

We had a great time this weekend!!! One of the coolest events we have been to in a long time.

Don't misunderstand my comments or intent. I could care less if someone breaks our records at Devil's Lake, we already accomplished what we set out to do in WV...and we plan to be faster next year.

I would really like to avoid future pissing matches because of lack of clarity on the rules. The original intent was to get racers to run "normal" race boats through the traps. If the rules are opened up to special boats, you will need one in order to have any chance of setting a record. Most racers don't have the time or money to invest in a boat that may run once a year. We, on the other hand, are stupid enough to build a special boat that is faster in a straight line than a "normal" boat. These special boats will likely cause people (without straightaway boats) to not bother showing up at time trials and kill the event.

Personally, I'd prefer to have other folks there to compete against. The 25 battle between Brewster and Allen was pretty awesome!

Do you have a Pavlick Tee-shirt that will fit Troy???

This is all good banter!! Now that all these issues are coming to the surface on Hydroracer, perhaps the leaders can give some thought to fine tuning the rules to assure the 1/4 mile runs are not compromised.

After all, arn't these forums on Hydroracer meant to create stimulating discussions and create awareness!!
