            David Everhart,
Just curious....which is older? The boat in your avatar or your marriage?

Buy a hose clamp, have it dipped in gold and then buy her a boat. If she needs it adusted she can just turn the screw and if the motor needs a hose clamp she has a spare on her finger. Kidding aside. The boat will bring more enjoyment and togetherness.

A little over a decade ago, I was living in a much warmer climate and dating a girl from the great lakes region. after dating for 10 years on and off I decided it was time to settle down and pop the question. I saved the $ and was in the car en route to the jewelry star when I stopped at a 7 11 for an iced coffee. I ended up in the keys that day and bought my first sailboat and no ring. She flew in that weekend expecting to get a ring, and left with a picture of the boat that she titled her engagement ring. I did get the ring the following year! I say with past experience and as living proof....GO FOR THE BOAT.
When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!

You need a new boat builder.

You can vote without posting anything. Maybe some lurkers out there that are not commenting only voting. Also people can only vote once so they aren't stuffing the ballot box.

First wife was my sisters best friend so she knew boat racing is not up to negotiation, raced when I (repeat I ) could afford it and didn't when I could not.
Wife has no say, as faith would have it she passed on. Over time I found my Josephine and when we were becoming serious I took here to the garage where I had a 250,350,500 hydro and trailer--could not afford to race.

I then told her I can't race now but some day I will be able to afford it again and you will either go along with it and have no say or we will have to part company now---17 years ago and she is still here and goes along with what ever I wish in reguards to boat racing. Engagement ring came 5 years after marriage and after first capsule boat.
Moral if YOU have to chose get two rings one for her finger and one for your nose.

Maybe you misread. There is no negotiating between boat racing and woman or boat racing and ring. None whatsoever. We both love boat racing and neither one of us are picking boat racing over one another. It’s a sport we do together and apart, no problems. Read the thread for what it is. A fun joke of positive comments. 2 people in love. A woman who is in love with her current boat and doesn't want a new one in fear it will replace the one she has. A man who wants his woman to have a new boat that will potentially go faster. And a man poking fun at his girlfriend about a ring because he knows she wants to get married. Its pretty simple. No negotiating or choices actually being made. Just fun...

But while you’re on your rant and rave about boat racing and your wife having no say, is it your boat that you hold at night? Does your boat clean the house? Does your boat cook for you? Does your boat act as a lifelong partner? Does your boat meet every need and desire you have? Does your boat birth children? I can keep going…Boat racing is amazing, but family will always come first in my eyes. I understand your view and love for racing though. 8-)
