  • USTS Schedule

Many of you have inquired about the schedule. I apologize that we did not get the Promotion out last month Brad has been busy with work and the holidays. Here is the schedule we have for the 2009 season.

    May 21-25 DePue
(We are working on a potential 2 race weekend with testing on Thursday and friday morning and 2 races over Sat Sun and fininshing on Mon morning.)

    June 19-21 Winona

    July 24-26 Constantine

July 29-Aug 2 DePue PRO Nationals

    Oct 9-11 Raleigh

We were unable to secure any Florida races this year due to economic conditions in Florida. The Rotary Clubs in Inverness are already planning the 2010 race as well as the Rotary in Lake Wales. I understand there are some folks working on getting some PRO classes onto the schedule at some of the winter Florida races for those of you who might want to head that way in the early Spring. I have no details concerning those plans at this time.

I will update as furthur info is available.

We spoke with the folks at Lake Wales back in November and they are not able to do anything this year but are working with the folks in Inverness to make a big event in 2010. There is preliminary planning going on right now.

Ocoee was our back up if Inverness was to be run but we could not get Lake Wales. It is not a stand alone and I was last told they will try and add some PRO classes I am not sure which classes at this point.

        Florida races

I have heard that they are going to schedule the PRO classes at the Stock Divisional race at Ocoee, March 13-15 and that a race is being planned for the following week, March 20-22 at Lake Wales for just the Pro Division.

I don't know anything about the Lake Wales race you are referring too. Ocoee is run by Bill Tetro and he did mention he would try and put some PRO classes on if at all possible.

                OSY400, KPro/DePue & SO Nationals

                Yo,

It's only 300 miles from Grass Lake to DePue. A couple of trailers could take the equipment.

OSY400 and KPro run on Friday at DePue. Schedule the SO Nationals so CSH
and ASH run on other days.

That could work couldn't it ? This could be worked out at the Annual Meeting.

It's not only KPro & OSY that are impacted! 125, 175, 250, 350 all have drivers in both stock and pro. There are more classes at the stock/mods than just CSH & ASH impacted as well. Most drivers race multiple classes.

                      Hmmmm

Hopefully, something can be worked out .... we surely want to defend our OSY title from 2008 then travel to Grass Lake and run Stocks. Generally, OSY runs finals on Friday I believe and Stock runs Thursday through Saturday?

                        Pro Nationals

The Pro Nationals have been the same weekend for as long as I can remember, which starts on whatever the last Friday in July occurs.

This has not changed I think as far back as when the Nationals came back to Depue.

                            PRO Nationals Date in 2009

It is certainly understandable that some folks, (those that run both PRO and Stock Classes) are going to be disappointed or upset that , if the information posted as to the Stock Nationals dates are correct, there will not be as much opportunity to participate in both races as has been the case in the past when they were on following weekends.

That being said, as Ray Rodda and someone else has pointed out, the PRO Nationals has been held on the same weekend, last one in July, for quite a number of years now, and is not, or should not be a surprise to anyone who has attended it for the last 20 years at least. This is the way it has been, the way the Men's Club wants it, and probably the way it will always be as long as the current sponsor and club puts it on.

If any drivers in the Stock category who feel inconvienced want to inquire as to how something like this happened, you should look to your own category leaders who set your Nationals on the date they are this year, for whatever reason. I am sure the PRO Nationals would like to have any and all drivers that can make the race the last weekend in July, but any conflict is not the fault of the PRO Category, when this date and location has been locked in for as many years as it has for their National Championships.

This is very unfortunate, as with the economic situation as it is, especially for the long distance drivers from the west coat, it will not be helpful to either category. Hopefully, there will be better coordination in future years, so that whatever happened this year will will be avoided in the future, insofar as is possible.

                              Bill / all,

Yes, this is unforturnate that there is a coflict of dates between the Pro Nationals and Stock / J Nationals in 2009. MHRA had representatives at last years National meeting to propose our date per the request of the village of Grass Lake and events planned out the race. After much discussion regarding a running back to back weekends with the Mod Commision regarding their Nationals, we were left to come up with a new date that would work for the club and village. We asked many of the Pro Commisioners if they had an official date set for DePue. The best answers we got were "the last week in July" or the "the last weekend in July" as you mentioned above.

In looking at the past 7 DePue Pro Nationals on APBA's website it would be correct to assume that they were on the last weekend in July.
                              2002 July 26-28
                              2003 July 25-27
                              2004 July 30,31 - Aug. 1
                              2005 July 29-31
                              2006 July 28-30
                              2007 July 27-29
                              2008 July 25-27

2009 July 24-26 OR July 31, Aug. 1-2 (you tell me which is the last weekend in July)?

However, if we were told that the Pro Nationals start the last Friday in July (the 31 this year) as Ray Rodda mentioned (not the last weekend) there would have been a better understanding.

Regardless, as you mentioned the Pro Nationals have a traditional date that the Men's club requests and after already jockeying out Stock/J date around to accomodate the Mod friends/racers we were left with little options as well. It is unfortunate and we had felt by putting the race on the week we did, it would follow the Pro's as they've done in the past allowing those who which to attend both that option. I know I speak for MHRA when I say we hope both events are well attended and successful.
