  • Oil...????

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew the exact oil mixture ratio Yamato suggests in the manual? My drive shaft housing keeps filling with unburnt oil. I can only assume it is pooling up in the crank case and finding it's way through the lower seal and filling the driveshaft housing as a result of being too rich. Thanks for any help anyone can spare.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

What model Yamato. Sounds like you have a bad bottom crankcase seal. Not a oil/gas ratio problem.

      Oil ratio

My Y80 manual states 25:1 ratio.

        Raw Oil?

        Sonny-

If it is raw oil ck the seal in the bottom of the exhaust housing that seals the pinion input shaft of the lower unit. It will pump it into the housing if that seal is bad.

Why are you guys running so much oil? Why not run synthetic and use less oil? Just asking....

Have you ever tried 32 to 1? It works! I have stock and mod friends that run it (Redline) and they have never had a problem with it.

I know everyone has their own way of doing things, just thought I would throw this out for everyone if anyone is interested.

I've been running synthetic oil in all of my race engines for about seven years now, which includes merc's and Yamatos and I run 4oz. to the gallon. This is exactly what the manufactorer recommends. I've never had a problem with lubrication.

                      32:1

I have run synthetic at 32:1 for about 12 years and have had no issues. No excessive oil in the crankcase, mostly dry in the exhaust pipe and no fouled plugs. Good luck

Nothing like a nice and clean motor.

Probably because that's the way we've always done it.
I do run synthetic and less oil now.... Instead of 3 pints to 4 gallons I'm running 3 pints to 5 gallons.

If I ran that little oil in my old junk they wouldn't have any crankcase compression due to the grooves that are worn in the crankshafts at the seals and all the various other leaks. I figure if I get enough oil in the crankcase it can't all leak out as quickly as it's going in so it seals up all the leaks.
