Most Fuel sold on the water is alcohol free. There are several places here in Oregon to get alcohol free fuel. Be sure to ask before you buy.

I THINK I understand the gasoline controversy in "Stock" racing, but what's the big deal with "MOD"? Isn't fuel a minor consideration after all the milling and filing that's allowed?
From an old alky burner's point of view I know nitro made you run faster, it also greatly reduced the life of the engine, consequently most people didn't use it.
Isn't that the argument here?BRF doesn't make participation so difficult

It is Easy

Yes, it is as simple as you put it. The problem is that a lot of Mod and stock races are run with each other. The meters go wild with the crap in the fuel. The engines don't mind it as much as the meter does. And with that, some feel toxic additives could be added to their fuel for an advantage and the meter won't catch it becasue it is already off kilter with the ethonol. I think that is the issue. I think octane level might have more to worry about for a Mod engine than the amount of ethonol in the local pump gas.
Of course there are some that will disagree with that as well.Dave Mason

Yeh.. Stevo is Absolute ly right. I dunno what the folks up in MHRA or out at the DieHard battery test site are using around this time of year,,, but up heah we favor the flavor of Coffee Brandy. It'll definitely peg the meter, so you need to let the young member of the pit crew drive yer home. Coleman lantern fuel can be mixed 30/70 with avgas to lower the octane, but we wouldn't drink it.

[QUOTE=EKorpe;171465]Refer back to Kyle Lewis remark's ! Fuel ! another reason i dumped mod, To me gas is gas. Get rid of the stupid meter !
I agree 100% get rid of the meter. Everyone talks about the good old days then why can't we still go to a corner gas station and by gas. This is just another headache fpr the new person coming in. You should not have to go to an airport or marina to find legal gas. This is a rule that REALLY needs to be addressed now!! Each year it gets worseMike - One of the Montana Boys

Fuel in a can
Only fuel that is consistent comes in a can or from an Airport now a days.
Not making any suggestions just stating some "IN GENERAL" engine design facts.
Higher Octane fuel has a higher ignition temp and resists detonation to a higher degree.
In General most Higher Octane fuels ignite and burn slower than Lower octane fuels.
Low compression engines will make more power using minimal octane fuel and less ignition timing . The lower octane fuel burns faster and does not require as much ignition advance to burn efficiently. The engine does not have to work as long against advanced timing.
The Y102 & 302 were designed with extremely low compressions from the factory and the Y302 book gives 86 oct as min. .
Compared to a 45ss two cylinder looper not even close.
302 8.6:1 Swept / 5.5:1 Trapped
45ss 11:1 Swept / 7.2:1 Trapped
I fogot whom mentioned VP 87 oct but it is oxygenated

Not so fast
While I agree that is an absolute pain in the rear to go find legal gas now, the alternative is ugly. I gaurentee THE DAY you get rid of the meter people will start fiddling with the fuel (not saying it doesn't happen now). The problem with that is that the additives that make you go faster can also kill you, and those around you. Would it be worth it to gain 1/2 MPH? To some maybe, at Nats probably. If the extra crap I have to go through makes sure no one is using toxic additives, then to me it's worth it.

I don't think I said....

Merry Christmas Everyone. Remember to think about your engine this off season and give them the gifts that they need.28-R

100LL is not the ticket!
Get your wallets out & do the work!
AV Gas is good to use with other stuff to be legal by the meter.
