    Look fast or be fast?

I believe there is a huge difference between a racer and someone who just wants to look like a racer. Painting "Shelby stripes" on an Escort won't make it keep up with a GT500R. I have had 8 boats from the same builder since 1988 and each change that was made improved the handling and corner speed. In a package such as these small race boats most of the design is right there on the surface to see. They look like they do because each design element is functional and there's no place to hide it.

In the early 60's my D alky hydro (round nose 12'6" Baycraft) ran up front and was capable of about 74mph. In 2008 my DSH (11' pickle-fork B&H) runs 81+ on gasoline.

I think I understand where your going now....

I think Outboard Hydroplane design is a pure pursuit of performance perfection. Aesthetic design details that distinguish one manufacturer from another are often added as an afterthought or at the end of the manufacturing process.

If there are any design aesthetics involved, they are in the details of the finished product. Like a nice "S" curve on the top of the cockpit cowling instead of a straight line. Or an inscribed design on the transom (Roseberry?)

The big difference between your examples and Outboard Hydroplanes is that people buy cars or commission a building to make a statement or express themselves.

People buy or commission a boat to win races, which is the biggest statement you can make in this sport.

Hey... who invented the boat cart? What do ya say we all carry our boats in and out of the water? For old times sake. I had a lot of fun carrying my boat thru the Mississippi mud when I was a kid. (lost a few shoes doing that )
In region 10 I heard it was Bob Montoya.

Are people really suggesting that you have to have pickles to win?

I thought I saw a kid in a picklefork CSH blow you off on the outside in the second turn at Grass Lake when your snub-nose couldn't hold your inside lane.

boat racers for the most part will not buy a new boat just because something new looks cool. it would put the hurts on the beer money they will buy a new boat when the new ones are now passing them.

I would buy the ugliest boat in the entire world if I was guaranteed a National Championship with it.

Even if it was a Burner Craft or a Peter Scopinich or a Rhino Craft. 3 of the most unattractive boats ever, but they ran well.

                      no offense, boys,

                          Yes he did!

He did at that! As a matter of fact if I did have pickles I think he would of taken them off.

Those dang kids are turning into very good drivers!

So, CSH 12M your boats don't have pickles, and you've won a couple of National Championships? Why did you decide to go Pickle-less?
