    Hearn on the Left Side??????

    Cheese and Rice Ed,

Sounds like your taking a liberal side on this issue.

Oh thats right, I forgot your a lawyer.

I was there when the proposal from Sam Hemp was presented and my notes state "any production produced Mercury ring and pistons (including .015 OS)for the current Mercury J motors can be used" Reasoning, Mercury changes part numbers frequently.

Unfortunately thats not what got printed!

OH well, good intentions not well do***ented!!! Who's the J Class Secretary? There isn't one!!! So what we thought was agreed to was or can be subject to the interpratation of those submitting the rules. Not what was really stated! Think about the process of decision do***entation. You've been a VP and understand how very important this really is in the heat of running a Catagory!!! Its critical!!

Actually, Steve, our respective interpretations are running right with our political views. Conservatives generally interpret the rules (or laws) according to what they actually say; liberals generally interpret them according to what they want them to say. We each fit our stereotype!

Too bad your notes are not the minutes for the J meeting, especially since you heard the exact opposite of what Sam Hemp did and you were both at the same meeting.

BTW: your spelling is approaching the accuracy of Mikey's; might your note-taking suffer the same problem?

Whats In The Rule Book-tech Manual?????

        Ed,

        Your going Liberal on me!

Whats in the tech manual doesn't always spell the truth and is subject to interpretaions.

Case in point, 1984 Wakefield ASH qulification inspection, Don Roseberry inspected my KG-4 port covers with a radius of a Quarter and tossed me. The infamous EDGAR up held the DQ. A 25 cent quarter is and never was part of the inspection tool list. Protested and SORC Commisioner Blowman (C. Bowman) lead the charge to deny. Thats when I vowed to get into APBA Politics to attempt to correct this improper issue.

Oh thats right I picked this young WELL DRESSED kid from Indiana to be on my commission.

The point is we need to pay more attention at the annual meetings to make sure what was agreed to is what is printed.

        Done!

Got to get ready for racing!!

First: I ain't no liberal. Second: I'm still a "young WELL DRESSED kid from Indiana. Third: I guess that makes all of this your fault!

            Now THAT IS liberal thinking!

                  Ed,

Maybe we could give the J class's back to the Stock's since they did such a fine job with them...

This business about requiring the driver to produce a similar part along with a tech manual has never been required, is not part of the rules and constitutes a rule change within one week of the National Championships. FOUL!
Of all the dames in all the places. Thanks for the private emails and off line conversations to help with the matters at hand. The J solution is outrageous.
Don't inspect the rings? That is insane.

The parts will be compared to a new when it is inspected. If it does not match the motor will be disqualified.

Because of the black and white of the rule, any merc ring is allowed so how do we know? We offered a path for reinstatement.

You are welcome to challenge me...........we are trying to give someone an opportunity to prove the ring they are using is a merc part.

Maybe the tech manual for the Mercury should have been more clear when the Mercury was crammed......I mean introduced.

The publisher of the tech manual simply forgot to remove those gears from the manufacturer's specs when they were reprinted in the SO tech manual.

I said nothing about the intent. I only said that the tech manual had an error in it and that it did not reflect the actual vote of the SORC.

I'll say it again: there is no such error here with the J Rings.
Yes Eddie i already did that. But i must ask why the editing was not done BEFORE it was sent to the publisher?

It's an embarassment to our sport is what it is. Whoever came up with that idea ought to think about resigning their position. The J category promotes cheating, just another reason why Stock Outboard should be given their class back.

This seems like the only reasonable solution under the current situation.

Do you suppose Eddie is going to look at A OMC piston rings to see if they are all factory issue or is this somehow only an issue for Merc engines?
