KOMATO Gear Case Owners

Hello KOMATO Owners;

We had as many as 50 Komato Gear Cases, racing at several venues, this weekend. I have had NO reports of any KOMATO mechanical failures. We have had many compliments on the excellent handling, the great turning ability, and the ability to run the unit very high. However, we did have two or three drivers say the Komato wasn't allowing sufficient water flow for proper engine cooling. This may be an isolated rigging problem, or a Komato problem. Further testing and evakuation will take some time, so I've drawn up a couple idea's (attached) that should get plenty of water cooling to your engine. I solicit your ideas and constructive criticism.

Not rigging

It is not a rigging problem. I burnt up the best motor I ever had. we reworked the water holes and the lower unit watered fine after that. I will say I love this lower unit so far. It handled really good. I highly recommend this unit but DO NOT use it as it comes from the factory.

Komato Lower unit

We were the first ones out with one at the NBRA race in Alexandria, LA. We also burned up a new 44. After everyone saw this they drilled theirs out and they worked great.

Hello Racers;

After up to 50 Komato's ran this weekend, it became painfully obvious some MODIFIED Engines require a lot more cooling capacity, than smaller dispacement PRO Engines. Initial testing on PRO 700cc engine, up to 115mpg, showed Komato "Watered" good, but this weekend some MOD's found otherwise. "Field Testing" is best to solve problems, but in the interim, I've drawn up a "Fix" that should immensely increase watering capacity.

Jim, Dudly has pictures of the unit I worked at the race in Alex, Much easier than what you show, and the hole in the front isnt really needed. My 3 holer looked like a fountain,just as it started to plane out

Jim let me Know what you think of the mods I did on the unit, I loved the unit, the handling was superb, and i am 1/8 above the tru bottom of the hydro, I just now have to find the right prop

Jim, what I did was to groove the fornt hole all the way to the nose and groove the back hole all the way to the fornt hole. It seemed to be enough but I might go ahead and put the front hole in there. these mods will definitely make this the best unit out there.
