I have one question, is there any difference in a 20SSH (Y-80) hydro and a CSH (Y-102) hydro other than the engine size.

From what I have measured in the pits when no one is looking ...

A generic 20SSH (Yamato 80) boat's afterplane (back of the sponson bottom to the back of the bottom is approx 70" to 72". Bottom width (air trap to air trap) is 35" to 36".

A generic CSH (Yamato 102) boat's afterpane is approx 72" to 74". Bottom width is 35.5" to 36.5".

The Sorensen kit called "Pocket Money" you are building with a 36" bottom would work well for both 20SSH and CSH, as would the boats you see for sale on this thread.

Doug is basically pretty close with his accessment. Dawecraft do have a little more afterplane length than most other boats though. Blueskyracer, if you have any other questions about the boats (technical) that Gary cannot answer, feel free to email me. I have owned and raced Dawes for close to 10yrs now and still have a couple (have had close to 10 of them), they are very easy to drive and very forgiving. There is also a guy (Roy Mackey)in E.Wash that bought (2) brand new Dawes from Ernie late last year (CSH and CMH), so he could help also.

I got this past the wife because of what happened a year ago March 19th. I had a heart attack and the wife did CPR for 20 minutes untill the ambulance got here. Since then we have a new respect for doing things we have always wanted to do because you never know if there will be a tomorrow. A year and one stint later I am all healed and the specialist say I did not even have any lingering damage. There is a very small percentage of people that make it thru this and turn out as good as I did.

The wife has her mini horses and I will have my hydros and we both have our corvette.

I tried to do this back in the 70's but could not afford the engine. Now I can afford the engine but not the fuel. LOL

It is a done deal. The check is in the mail and we pick up the boat, motor and two props, in Salt Lake City next Saturday evening. Thanks for all of the help and advice.

Congradts BlueSkyRacer!! My first ride was one of Daren's Dawecrafts. He liked it so much he bought it back from me, so its still in the family. You're starting out with some very nice stuff, not to mention.......very fast! Have fun this season!

I am making a rack for the back of the truck using the stake holes in the bed so that I can carry this puppy around. My last question is how wide are the CS Hydros from the outside of one sponson to the other. In other words will it fit between the stake holes on a PU bed.

Then, how wide should the rails for it to sit on be, 34" to be safe?

I did the same thing when I hauled my boat in the back of my truck. I used two 2X4's and kept them 33" apart measured to the outside. The boat will slide right on transom end first and let the nose of the boat hang out the back of the truck. Use tie down on the transom and tie them in diagonally to keep the boat from wanting to slide sideways. Hope this helps

A couple pictures of the 2X4 framework I used in my truck. Its got a runabout on it. But it was used to haul the CSH.
