Well still havnt turned up the heat and primed, maybe tomorrow.

I did however talk to Jamie Jamison today. He thinks he has pics of the Epidemics and will be looking for them to send me. Was great to talk to him, very helpful and willing to do what he can to help. Should hear back from him in a couple days. If he finds some, Ill post them on here.

That guy was one hell of a driver back in the day, one year he won every race he entered with the Eye of the Tiger PS boat. He is not a bad painter either! LOL

FINALY......However it did expose a couple small areas to give a touch more attention to. That was what I wanted. Fix the other couple areas, long board the whole thing, then prime again as the final prime....Hope to have that done by next weekend.....

Someone called and asked what is required for K? In 1968 or 69 it was unlimited cubes and carbueration. Dual fours, tri-power, port fuel injection, cross rams, tunnel rams, and blowers didnt come until the 70s when they found out how to make them live. I dont think anyone would be turned down from running this GPS bunch with a single carb, would we??
If not enough Ks showed up we could invite other class boats that would mimic the former Grand Prix classes of yesteryear. What do ya all think? This would not be a new class, we run under current Ski boat class or GPS, already established within AOF rules.

I had posted this a few days ago and took it back off because I didn't want to offend anyone. But now I think with Chads' posting it might be appropriate. This posting is not to offend but is offered as an observation.

“There is an enormous difference in Racing a boat and driving a boat.”
When I left the boat racing fraternity and moved on to car racing, specifically Formula Atlantics (open wheel, in ground effects race cars) these are the cars that you race just before moving into Indy cars. I hired a guy by the name of Sandy Dells. Kind of a rough type of guy, certainly weathered by the sun but, with a lot of experience with this type of racing. One day we were at Willow Springs California, which is north of L.A. testing on the track. I had made a couple of laps to warm the tires and then he radioed “get after it.” A made a few hot laps, or so I thought, and he radioed “come on in.” I pulled into the pits and he said “get out of the car.” I did and he proceeded to climb up one side and down the other of my skinny frame. Don’t forget I was paying this guy good money. After a 15 minute ass chewing he said “you are driving the fu***** car, not racing it.” I never forgot that ass chewing or those words. For the most part, and I speak primarily about the flat bottom classes, we have drivers driving the boats not racers racing the boats. Don’t get all riled up now. I don’t mean to insult anybody I merely I’m pointing out some obvious observations, not just by me, but others whom may not say it openly. And this certainly does not apply to all. The one thing an owner tries to do is accommodate his driver with everything that the driver thinks he needs to improve his position on the grid (that’s car talk). However what do you do when you have a 120 M.P.H. boat and a 90 M.P.H. driver? And you as an owner, how do you recognize it? The driver that consistently says that we need to change the plate, the prop is wrong, the motor has no horsepower, he cut me off, I had a bad start, we’ll you get the idea. Those are drivers, not racers.
The best potential for an upcoming driver that has a future to be a winner is one that can admit to himself or herself and to his/hers owner that there is more boat here than I am a driver, but give me time and I will get better and become a racer. So does that mean all of us will be winners? No! Somebody still has to come in last, but it is how often you do come in last that needs to be analyzed. Not everybody is cut out to be a winner. Those drivers need to recognize that in themselves and be content with their position on the race course and just have fun doing what they are doing and be satisfied with the ego part of racing and the friends they make.
When I raced the K’s I was in a very compromising situation. I built the boat so I couldn’t blame the boat if I lost. I tuned the engine so I couldn’t blame the power if I lost. I drove the boat so I couldn’t say I was a lousy driver. My point is this. There is nothing wrong for you as a driver to say this boat racing scares the **** out of me, so give me a chance to learn and respect my ambition and my willingness to get experience without putting myself in arms way. I can remember winning the Western Divisional at Firebird and almost vomiting in my helmet after the last race, literally. Craig Breedlove (whom I became good friends with, in his attempt to break the sound barrier LSR attempt) once told me “If it was that easy to go 700 mph everybody would be doing it!” The same applies to boat racing. “If it was that easy everybody would be doing it.” BTW the underlined are hot links, for those of you who are hot linked challenged.
