    Wow

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the one and only high performace BOAT Tooler; Mr Orrin. Welcome Harlan and many thanks for your time Sunday. Lets see if my memorys functioning:

Harlan worked for his Uncle Ernie at Mandella starting in mid 1950s building all wood boats. He also worked for Jack Davidson at Sanger Boats in Fresno California on Annadale Avenue (including designing the famous Pickel Fork Hydro and the circle bottom flat) They also made:
a 17'10" Super Sanger Drag hull selling for $1600,
a 17'10" Ski Drag flat at $1400 add $795 for a wood deck in mahogany, walnut, ash or birch
    a 18'10" Family Ski for $1500,
a 19 foot Circle SK SS K hull for $1600,
a 19' Catalina Utility with windshield for $1700
and two drag hydros an 18' and 21' for a little more $s!
Of course these were all v-driven boats sold in 4 stages, with the 4th stage being turn key boats selling between 5 to 7 thousand complete!

Fill in the blanks for me bud....he also worked at Tige, Hallet, Rayson Craft. what did I forget?

Here's where these hydro folks get interested, Harlan raced hydroplanes! (a Hallet) once using a Junior Fuel engine from a dragster. He is married to a lovely lady named Mary and they are still madly in Love!

Upon my crash at Banks in 2004, he actually kissed me, moustach and all, to see if my heart was beating..... Harlan still farms an avocado grove, restores pool tables, and best of all builds beautiful wood boats from scratch or restores them from rotten chunks. His current re-creation project is the famous 'Banzai' top fuel hydroplane with Blown Hemi!

Harlan O. has a steel strut for me and some wisdom to share, thanks Harlan! Mr. Former Farmer is loaning me his boat flipping jig so here goes a jerkbottomblueprinting.[/QUOTE

            thanks for your post.
Today, Mary and I are celebrating our 53rd wedding anniversary!!!
I designed, and built, the HOMEWRECKER. The hydroplane I raced in the 150 class, 266 class, and as a UBH drag boat. We ran a Bud Meyer Chev II Nova, B Gas Coupe 327" SBC, 302" JR Fuel dragster, and a 259" SBC Bonneville engines.
Boyd, thanks for the kiss on the top of my head, the next year during dinner.
Barry just found out one of his friends still has 2 Keith Black blown gas hemi Chryslers. They were built about the same time has his original BONZAI engines.

Thanks for the compliment, but one question, why does it pain you?? We all have boats that float and sometimes race, right? Why is there this division between clamp ons and screw ins???? For the life of me, I just dont understand the major 'contageous' inboard disease we flats seem to have! Heck, I used to race a D and B hydro but??? maybe too old to run one now.

Why in heavens name would you be afraid to drive it after flying a hydro? You might like it and be 'branded' by some on this site? Too much.

                MORE BOATS, and ENGINES.

                Hello
I am in the process of having the engine rebuilt for my 18' reproduction 1958 wood Mandella v-drive. It is a '58 Oldsmobile with '62 heads. It is bored to 394. The cam is a vintage Engle dual pattern. When we pulled the circle race pan I found out there was a stroker crank, .400. The front cover will be from Moon with a Stellings breather. I will have the stock steel valve covers rechromed and repolish the small breathers. The exhaust manifolds are vintage from Cal Marine. I thought this engine was a STOCKER. I will paint this engine Oldsmobile gold. Most of the installation has been built. I will disassemble the installation for polishing.

Thats interesting you talking about Rusty, I talked to Bill his brother to ask him about my Bies 14' circle boat with V-drive, Bill and Rusty built my boat in 65' and it went to other people to be rigged, he questioned me heavily on the 14', they didn't make many. Alot of 16'. Rusty passed away in the 80's and Bill is 82. Neat to be able to talk to the man and yes he designed the Biesemeyer Fence for your table saw.
