Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the one and only high performace BOAT Tooler; Mr Orrin. Welcome Harlan and many thanks for your time Sunday. Lets see if my memorys functioning:
Harlan worked for his Uncle Ernie at Mandella starting in mid 1950s building all wood boats. He also worked for Jack Davidson at Sanger Boats in Fresno California on Annadale Avenue (including designing the famous Pickel Fork Hydro and the circle bottom flat) They also made:
a 17'10" Super Sanger Drag hull selling for $1600,
a 17'10" Ski Drag flat at $1400 add $795 for a wood deck in mahogany, walnut, ash or birch
a 18'10" Family Ski for $1500,
a 19 foot Circle SK SS K hull for $1600,
a 19' Catalina Utility with windshield for $1700
and two drag hydros an 18' and 21' for a little more $s!
Of course these were all v-driven boats sold in 4 stages, with the 4th stage being turn key boats selling between 5 to 7 thousand complete!
Fill in the blanks for me bud....he also worked at Tige, Hallet, Rayson Craft. what did I forget?
Here's where these hydro folks get interested, Harlan raced hydroplanes! (a Hallet) once using a Junior Fuel engine from a dragster. He is married to a lovely lady named Mary and they are still madly in Love!
Upon my crash at Banks in 2004, he actually kissed me, moustach and all, to see if my heart was beating..... Harlan still farms an avocado grove, restores pool tables, and best of all builds beautiful wood boats from scratch or restores them from rotten chunks. His current re-creation project is the famous 'Banzai' top fuel hydroplane with Blown Hemi!
