ADD; the 15 inch transom height is for having the cavitation plate even with the bottom.

Thanks for your time-
Silas.
you can get into a complete used rig for around $2500 (probably even less), which is cheap. Will you be competitive the first year......no, because you need to learn how to drive and refine your skills, which takes years.
if you would quit whining of the high cost, go to a race, I am sure someone would loan out a rig for you to test/race. This sport is still cheap, compared to anythig else comparable in the MOTORSPORTS industry.........
do guys have $6000 tied up into their rigs, of course, but I guarantee 90% of them started in a BUDGET ($2000 range) rig at first. Once you get hooked, you will dump ALOT of money into your equipment and I DO NOT care what anyone says........it costs LOTS of money to be competitive at the upper level in ANY sport, including boat racing at our level.........
PS: I know a boat builder that will build you a BRAND NEW hydro or runabout for less than $2000!
BTW: DO NOT judge boat racing from what you read here and the rest of the internet..........GO to a race, you will find a different atmosphere there!!!Last edited by mercguy; 11-29-2007, 07:17 PM.Daren

You are right dan, i know close to nothing on the topic. But i do know that with the classes available in my area are, at this time, not the right ones for many people, whether its because of time, travel, or money.
My point is if there is enough people who have this same problem then something local can be done. but, it will not only will it bring people like me and my father into the sport of boat racing, but it will attract future people who would have been otherwise turned off of boat racing due to those requirements.
Sorry i have wasted your time with my 'crying', '*****ing', and 'sad story' but talking to you is like arguing with a 12 year old. 'you are right, your way is the ONLY way, and everyone else is wrong.'

As far as who you talked to, it definitely wasn't "the B&S factory" it was a dealer or distributer, get your story straight. B&S doesn't sell direct to the public, so if someone was selling a B&S outboard it was a dealer or distributer, plain and simple. So none of your "story" holds any water. But you posted earlier that anyone can buy a B&S for $600!!!! This proves my point and tarnishes your credibility.
So what? I was off a hundred bucks. Big deal. Point is, for less than a $1000 someone who wants one can have a mini most. If you don't want one, then don't have one.
Geesh, you just beat up a very old lady. Big man! You win, I lose. As Russ Waterson said, we know who we talked to and you sure "ain't" getting the name. You'd ruin the whole concept for us before it got started. (It wasn't the Tech guy from B and S, BTW). And besides, some are running antique engines on their mini most. Some may even just push them around and use them for push boats. This is a "for fun" project. Worry about where you are going to cut classes with the regular race schedule, find turn boat volunteers, how we are going to keep the EPA from shutting us down, where we are going to find new race sites and new members, or something else that is actually important.
I never attacked you, Ricochet, and don't even have a clue who you are. I am like anyone else about our sport-passionate. My grandson is a 5th generation boat racer and I am proud of that, but I would be more proud if I said I brought 5 new racers into our sport this year. It just doesn't hurt us to turn over every stone we can think of in any attempt to making sure my family has a chance for 6 generations.

conversation
I just got off the phone with DSR_Runabouts Father. We had a great conversation about current equipment as well as other options. They are genuine about wanting to get into the sport. I gave them some names of people to contact to help them along and would not be surprised to see them on the water somewhere in 2008._____________________________________________

how about i spend 2k on a mini gt and go to weekly local races...
Ever play on a dart team?? well in my devision there are 3 local bars each one has several teams out of them, every tuesday we look at the schedule, if we are home we go to a home bar, if we are away, we go to the home bar of the team we are playing. You could do the same thing with local boat racing, have 3 to 5 ponds/lakes and have a weekly schedule set up so you know were you are racing every week right from the get go. there are no national, who ever wins that season wins... they might get a wind breaker or something. but if one of these teams is good enough they could move on to better pro circuts......
this is a form of motorsports...........Last edited by mercguy; 11-29-2007, 07:25 PM.Daren
