Im not sure what motor or speeds the Mini Most is supposed to use but the photos look like led sleds and in my mind a 30-mph heavy tank will not spark anyones interest.
That was a unkind thing to say.

            How The

Heck does one get merging organizations from a thread about Minimost ?

It is pretty funny to read all the posts about the sport dying and that everything needs to merge. Hell, the reason umpteen hundred years ago that APBA lost a lot of members is because they got sick of this political BS going on and they formed AOF. Now those same forefathers that fathered AOF have created NBRA. If I am not mistaken from my observations, it has had more growth in the last few years than the big one. I don't have membership numbers, I am not a Dana Holt or Dean Sutherland number man. I simply observe it with my own eyes.

One strong observation that many of you might not get. APBA people have STRONG opinions and are not very open to change. It is a small organization that does not have enough members to allow for a majority rules. There is just enough people who disagree with the opinions of others to allow the organization to go nowhere.

Example, nobody can seem to find out where Dean Sutherlands neighbor can buy a new J engine..... is that progress ? I read that thread and had to shake my head. A lot of pages to read and I still don't see where the kid can get a new engine. Perhaps the J category should go back to the stock category....

I also believe that the organizations do not need to merge. There is no organization better than the other. It is all boat racing people, get over it.

Sad day when a post like this is under a minimost thread........

Looks like I opend up a can of worms seems only the Rich can race boats today. Bring back the creativity of the 50's and 60's yes you bet. Technology will advance you're selves right out of exhistance. With TV. and computers kids don't know how to have fun. And be creative and build stuff forget it, they want everthing handed to them. If it ain't fast (and that is everything) they don't want it. They think Special effects makes for a good movie.

And the high prices of everything leaves out the average kid and adult.
You guys sound like a bunch of winey cry babys thinking some simple boat is going to taint you're faternity of (whatever). I want to spark interest in a hobby sport and the cheapest way to do it.

I guess you high rollers don't shop at Wallmart.

              website to these boats

Don't try to duck racing against my minimost. It is going to be super fast if it floats. :P

And you "knew" not "new". "New" is that cool boat you and your son built. Move over Hemp ... Here comes W&J Hydro Craft!

My minimost project has given me a heck of a lot of respect for guys like you who can build a boat and work with wood for a living. I've never had so many splinters in my life! I've also learned the hard way not to mix West System in a tin can.

Like Woodman I was a member of Muskokaseaflee before I was a member on Hydroracer.
You NEED a class that is SLOW compared to, lets say, a D hydro. It needs to be a "stock" class using a "stock" off the shelf motor. I do not know if I will ever get into racing. At this time in my life I will not invest 5-6k into boat racing partly because I do not have the time. I think the class is called GT25? using any advertised 25hp engine with the club foot lower unit. I can find a good running 25 for as little as $400. The boat, motor and first tank of gas for less then a used Yamato.
I did buy a Yamato, $700 including shipping. Last raced in the late 80's. I have not had it on my old B runabout but it runs good and it came with a Dewald prop. I was VERY lucky to run across this. I have never even seen a Yamato go for less then 1200, excluding shipping.

I think, not being a racer but interested, that a Minimost class, or something with a club foot motor is what you need.

This is a reply I got from a another thread about low cost class.

"Cost effective stock motor racing to attract new racers like most every other motorsport and boat racing country in the world has????

You'll likely get banned for mentioning such a thing..."

Am I mistaken or is the minimost concept for kids starting at 6 years old? I think I read that some where.

                            Local option class?

When I raced Super Karts back in the 80's there was an entry level class. Take a adult kart from one of the lower classes and put a restrictor plate in it and let the kids run em. ( Sounds like J hydro. )There was not a class for a wooden framed home made kart with an old edger motor on it. Now there are entry level classes for kids in Karting with specific karts ( like J hydro, real race boat and motor). There is the option for local classes in APBA that will allow for local rules-local points, perhaps this is where you could run a Club class and keep the cost low. It costs me $600-$1000. per weekend to race out of my region. The entry level driver / Dad that is trying to keep cost low with a homemade boat and Brigs engine is not going to travel very far to run. I travel as far and as often as posssible to race( Doug , how many times have you seen me in Fl ?) And run all 3 Stock , Mod and Pro, usually 4-5 classes perweekend and the thing we are always short on is time, I dont think there is any open time for another entry level class at most major events. Try a mini most class at the club races and publish the turn out. If the class grows more clubs will pick it up. I know making expenses at club races is always a challange.. This could fill the Bill.. We SSOA are looking at a Vintage ob type class next year. Ill let you know when it flys. Shawn

What I think... as if anybody cares.

On another thread, I pointed out actual real life instances where active and competitive APBA racers have sprung from small town mini-most type racing. Yes, mini-most racing is slow and rather unglamorous. Kinda like riding a moped, it's lots of fun, until your friends see you on one!
I'd like to think mini most racing could be a good stepping stone for others into "the big time" racing ranks.
At least we are all talking about racing with motors.
One of my favorite pastimes is to make fun of the canoe races on YouTube. I mean, come on! The words canoe and race should not even be used in the same sentence. Kinda like jumbo shrimp: two opposite meaning words!
Read my remark on this one:
                                http://youtube.com/watch?v=rQPaL4hfj7M

                                And this one:
                                http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rvbyq3oPugc&feature=related

                                I'm not being mean...just honest.
