Seems really committed to racing if he is ready to throw in the towel after a couple of months............. Why doesn't everybody give these guys a break?? They are bustin' their butts to get everyone nationwide NEW motors, parts, etc........... here's a little food for thought......Does any new retail store open with only partial inventory?? Let Racing Outboards do it the right way, like they are doing, and everyone ( well of course not everyone) will be happy.
Tony,
Those other companies would have several R&D guys working on those motors and personally I still wouldn't be as frustrated as you are that there time tables were not being met. As for Racing Outboards, let me remind you that there has been one man primarily doing the R&D for this project(no disrespect to the others that have worked on the project). The quality of the motor will reflect the time that it has taken to complete. I actually do understand your frustration, but I refuse to listen to everybody give 20-20 hindsight on what should have been done, and what should be done.
As for the J's, let the kids do six laps, come in, pat them on the back, say "good job/did you have fun?" And then give them some racing tips for next time.
Mr Stillwill, didn't you tell me the OMC's were still about 1 mph faster than the Mercs on top end?
The old 2 blade Kilo record was 42.75 by Kyle Hannon, the current 3 blade Kilo record is 38.83 by Aaron Peterson, both are by OMC's.
Mike Bartlett
Mike I dont think it was me that siad the OMC was faster then the Merc on top end. We havent had kilos in the east for awhile so not to many Mecs have had a chance to break any records other them the compition records which Val holds the 4 lap 3/4 mile AXSH record with a Merc and Joel Kiddy has the JSH 3 lap 1 mile Record with a Merc after Dillon Runne broke it the first heat by 6 mph with a Merc. I built all three of those motors. A really good OMC against a really good Merc would be a toss up and who got out in front would win.
Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

I believe it was broke by 6 seconds....not 6 MPH....even though it seems they are faster than everyone else by 6 MPH.

I think as of this weekend they still have 4 new ones and 36 conversion kits. Mercury has alot of EPA credit points since they went almost all four stroke with there line of motors so I think they could still sell some of the export 15's in this country to APBA if needed.
George, the 4 strokes really have nothing to do with earning EPA points, it is the emissions levels that do, on the passing motors and in fact, the Optimax's (2 stroke Mercs) and the E-Tecs (2 stroke Evinrudes) are more emission friendly than the 4 strokes. Tohatsu is now making all the 60hp and below 4 strokes for Merc, Merc makes the Verados. Kinda of subject, but just some info for ya.............seems everyone thinks the 4 stroke motors are "da ****"........I would still take a 2 stroke anyday...........be it Opti or E-Tec......
What a post! I just read all six pages and I think this is rediculous! I came up in the J class running third to Chad Difebo and Matt Gallagher week in and week out for years and years... They were the Luces', Allens', Kiddys', and D'Agostinos' of my days. Yes, they had faster motors and better props, yes they had flatter bottoms and newer designs, and yes they had faster families and bigger trailers, but you know what- my grand pop and I never gave up, although frusterated, we never stopped testing and racing. TRY, TRY, TRY! I'm now in my sixteenth season and I'm at the top of my game- those people mentioned earlier ARE human and they CAN be beaten - through hard work and dedication. Maybe next year someone will pass me with 2 mph, that just makes me want to try harder for the following race, not say "this motor stinks"! You can type on this page all day long about who's going how fast, I'll be in my garage sanding the bottom of my boat and checking my spark plugs... No disrespect meant here, but let's focus on the kids driving rather than the rigs. "The fastest boat doesn't always win." - quoted without permission by Mr. Brewster.... My two sense... Greg Lyons
In my humble opinion, We all love boatracing. Yet we will never all agree about what is the Best for boat racing. therefor when we disagree we need to do it in a positive way. keeping in mind that those you disagree with care as much as yourself for this great sport and the people in it.
You would be hard pressed to tell anyone at Grass Lake that the OMC's need any help in AX...OMC's were clearly faster in the AXR, in AXH it was who ever got out front...omc or mercury.
