Wrong .015 over is all they make and that rule has been in effect in the J class for sometime so that isnt new, next reason?

          No disrespect here!

If you are competitive enough to sell your stuff out of frustration, why don't you buy a Mercury. Plus, this class is a building block for the future of the sport, just think how good of a driver he will be after racing in all that back of the pack water. It builds character.

It really stinks to think we lost a J driver because he was frustrated he wasn't going fast enough. Just think of all the possible fast years he could have raced.

Maybe it is boat design more than motor. Maybe J should consider going to a one design class to level the field even more.

I raced J for three years before I ever came in anything but LAST PLACE!
Then I got the magic combination and won every race in my fourth year.
People always say I'm quite a character! Now I know where it came from.

LOL! My first Nationals I got 4th in JSR and my second Nationals I got 5th. Now, I am a horrible driver and a lousy character LOL! On the other hand look at the kid on the top of hydroracer in the 1-N, he used to be horrible and now look at him LOL! j/k Greg

                  Omc's................................

It was just 2 short years ago at Dayton when we decided to run our 'excellent' OMC J engine over our 'excellent' Merc J engine at the Nationals. If memory serves me Valerie out qualified the field by winning both heats by over 16 seconds and claimed the Jo Anne Ellis award for smoking the field moreso than any other class qualifier at the event. If the race committee would have used the blowout day in lieu of putting in the 'suicide' course at the far end of the lake i believe she would have dominated the finals in the same fashion instead of jumpin the gun in whitecaps.

When my driver was competing in J Hydro we could win with either engine given the current rules. Everyone wants to focus on the motors........but lets not forget the boats!! Our B&H which i sold to Luce who dominated at Wakefield with in 2006 in J Hydro is the same boat Val dominated with in 2005

Gee, what a coincidence. Come on Mikey and the SORC, it is a combination of boat, motor and yes APBA props. The current OMC is now like the KG-4 was at the 'end of the road'. If you have the smarts you can piece together a OMC to be a 'killer' motor like we had a couple years back. Fact is a lot of newcomers think they can take an old ASH boat, put a OMC on it and run with the likes of Valerie, Luce, Runne etc. Get real, we are competitors and if the SORC want to up the restrictor in the OMC then the 'quite' sharp guys out there are going to pounce on it and bury the Merc!!

In my humble opinion the J committee lucked out and got the motors as close as you can given the nature of two motors in one class. Well, maybe it wasn't all luck...lol. Hey Mikey, no belt please at Grass Lake, my mom always used a hatpin on me!!!!!!

                  Later.

1 make of boat, motor, and prop?

Maybe I should have started a new thread for this, but...

What are people's thoughts on having 1 make of boat, motor and prop for the J class? Use J as a training grounds for kids to get driving experience and to get hooked on boat racing. The emphasis would be taken off finding that last .1 mph and would be on the kids having fun, learning to drive, and how to get good starts. We may find we have less frustrated kids (and parents) and gain new racers who stay in the sport for a long time.

Yes, I know it would take years to implement...

                    What are your thoughts???

                      Mike,

I think it is a great idea. We need to have packages for new (and current) racers so they don't have to shop all over the country to put a rig together. Plus it would hopefully eliminate the poor kid that can't get on plane every other heat. It's not even be my kid and it frustrates me to see them struggle.

Don't forget that J is a training class. So what if your kid doesn't win. Is the purpose of J to win or to learn?

                                the J sidewinder

So how long do we have to wait for this? I am being serious and not being smart.
I have a kid in J getting his butt kicked by the Mercs. Doesnt matter how good a start he gets, he knows he is a sitting duck. Is that what we want to see?
                                Heck no.
Oh, and yes the motor has been built by the best too. No way will it compete with a merc revving a thousand rpm more than us.
Bull crappola on the boats being important. Getting passed down the straightaway by three miles per hour...we are all the same.
So, after my second son gets tired of this what do I do for my daughters?
They think this sport is great too??
Why should I jump on the merc band wagon and spent about 6 grand on it just to have the sidewinder come in and kick its butt as soon as i get it going?
I would love to hear some suggestions, Abby is now seven and chomping at the bit!
