  • 1st WA Nationals Since ?

It’s been three weeks since my accident. I’ve had a couple of surgeries and may have others in the future. My knees are still pretty sore and my arm, hand and shoulder have a lot of challenging/painful physical therapy ahead. Since I’ve been home, I’ve received lots of calls – thanks! Also, thank you for the sincere sentiment on the beach, upon returning from the hospital in Ohio, and the warm wishes on Hydroracer. Special thanks to the helpful people who were in the water with me.

With all that has happened and despite how nasty my arm looks, I’m bothered the truck that should be carrying my D stock for a potential 5-peat has left, without my equipment. The last stock nationals that I missed was 1995, and before that, 1985.

I am grateful to be able to rehab my hand and arm with daily physical therapy, with hoped recovery to 100% or close to it. I can’t express how much I want to race and play at the first nationals in Washington in my career. There are lots of titles for the taking, so be safe! This is the nationals and it is about the titlists, so try to keep your political agenda in your pocket.

Good luck to everyone, particularly the D hydro field! Give good race reports and have fun.

                  AOF Nationals in Moses Lake

                  Brian,
We are all happy that your surgery went well. I was so afraid you might slip and fall and get hurt worse. Nice seeing you in DePue.
You will be back racing before you know it.
Next year by this time you will almost have forgotten about your injuries.
Now, to clear up the Washington Nationals question.
AOF has had 2 nationals within the last 8 years right on the spot that you are going to race. I was there both times. It is beautiful and the water is very fast. Everyone attending will have a great time. On the way home if you have an extra couple of hours, go North to Sand Point and take the old highway through Priest River, then down to Mizoula. Man, what a trip. There are trout streams, continental divides, and the most beutiful scenery, including glaciers that you will ever see. It is worth the trip. And then you will miss that big pass, I think it is called 4th of July pass or something.
And if you have never driven this route, just wait until you come to Cour d'lane. Wow. You will be impressed.
One of the things that surprised me most about Moses Lake is that it is in a desert. I had no idea there was a desert that far north. It is like an oasis that you come to.
Well, be safe and have a good time.
                  Connie
PS. Bill B. The AOF nationals had no one from Seattle area. I think that might just be part of the reason the Spokane bunch decided to do their own thing. Not sure though. (Oh yea, Howard Shaw came and my friend Susan. But other than that, not much support at either nationals). Things will get better with time.

                    Bri,
I dug through some of my archives and found a few pics from DePue '03. That was another one of those years that I wished I could have been competing instead of taking pictures from the shore.
I thought these pics might help to cheer you up. I think these are in order, start, lap 1, lap 2.

I hope you have a complete and quick recovery. (did you get my Email?)
                    Later, Jeffy.

                      Hi Brian...
                      Good luck with your recovery.
In '68, Will Pergande won both CSH & DSH with Janz hydros on Green Lake
                      in Seattle.

Can anybody guess who won DSH in Modesto in 1964?

                            Big Bri

Don't bum too bad about missing the fun out west just yet. Wait until somebody calls you and gives you the play-by-play as your boat is running. Then you get to feel the Wide World of Sports. Thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

The last Hinton race, Jerry Brewster and I each had just started new jobs and could go. We spent all week either on the phone with each other or with someone in the pits (this was of course BH-before Hydroracer). When Brother Chris drove my rig to a 4th in C2H, I was on top of the desk cheering him on - then spent the rest of the week thinking of how I would have driven it differently (and of course better)

You heal up fast cause we got some paint to rub next season. Shot me an email or give me a ring if you are getting to bored.
