Two guys came down from upstate running for high points and Dave Young loaned me his Wet Back to fill the field to make it legal. I won the first heat by a half a lap and was leading the 2 heat by over half a lap when I stuffed it in the first pin of the third lap. Still had fun even with a half boat of water.

Richard- The origional races were stock runabouts and Hydros in Trenton. Later came the 45ss tunnels and finally 120 tunnels joined the crowd. It is now the UIM world championships for 45 and 120 boys. The poor stock guys just beat their KNEES out, but, they keep coming back for more.

I ran against Chris, I thought his boat was a Reveau. the name of his boat was Navy Flyer. The boat I was running was a open front Speedliner. My number was N-33, named Hustler. I bought it when I got out of the Marines in 1959. The boat had an interesting history. It belonged to a guy by the name of Bob Boerkel from Franklin Square. He ran it in DU from 1952 to 1956. Won every race he ever entered. The name of the boat was Ruhbarb. One of the unique items was that it had a Formica bottom, hot stuff in those days. I went to the races with Bob as pit crew, I was a teenager at that time.

Roy: Navy Flyer was a Raveau but was run by Les Kahn from NYC. He ran alot of marathons, I saw him run Bayville, NY closed course once.

        Speedliners

Hi Roy & Anker- Anker is right about Les Kahn and his Raveau. I believe, looking back, that Chris had a DU DeSilva, at least back in the 60s.
Roy- Are you getting any kneeling action or is it left to the team mates to run? Going to be heading north for the summer on the BIG BOAT? Hope all goes well.
Anker- Find any plans yet for the 36 boat? To bad they destroyed the class.
An affordable class that still gave some action.

            Dementia setting in

I'm so confused!!!! You guys are right, what was I thinking.
No more kneeling, laying is the motion. Yes, Tim Small And Kurt Helsten do most of the driving now. 125CCR, 125CCH,
250CCR, 350CCR, 175CCH. Unfortunately, I am out to sea most of the races. I didn't make a single race last year.
I don't think I will make many this year. We are leaving in May for the U S Virgin Islands and onto British Virgin Islands. Roughly a 3000 mile cruise and about 4 months or more in time.
I have tried to attach a pic of the yacht, not quite sure how to do it.

                    Prices...

How much are you asking for the boats? And, is there enough room for a side by side seat arrangement and a space for a foot throttle?

I am cooking up a hairbrain scheme and that boat might be alot better than what I'm toying with...

                      Special build

I think its possible to do what your asking to do. I assume that you want a boat that close to 12 feet. The boat is 50 inches wide at the transom and we could open up the cockpit width another 5 or so inches so you should be able to have a side by side seating. It is also possible to build the boat possibly at 54 inches wide. We would need to know the engine size and model your planning and the water conditions you expect to run in. You mightwant to get the 3/8 inch thick marathon bottom also. If you have a set of specs your trying to meet e mail them to me and we can provide a quote and completion date. apvw1@aol.com

Here is what I have been pondering. First, my daughter, KT and I with tons of help, assembled a J/AXS/A hydro. The boat is a lovecraft, and the engine is an OMC 15 with an APBA race foot, same as all the A racers are running.

The process, when you consider attracting new blood into the sport, was nothing short of horrid. Getting al the parts, then the cost, then all the BS associated with the boat would scare 99% of the newbies away before it ever got wet.

So, my proposal, a speedliner type boat, 2 seats, one for a 9 year old, and the other for an 8 year old rider.

The engine, 15 cubic inches, and standard manufacturers lower units. The gearcase diameter would be restricted to minimum dimensions. The seats are more attractive to a new driver, as would be a barn door hinge foot throttle with a bungy cord return springs.

Motor hieght would not be allow the cavitation plate more than 2" above the bottom. As each engine brand made it headway into the class, we would use engine hieght and prop pitch, not the idiotic restrictor plates the APBA has approved to slow the motor. Two reasons for this. Resitrictor plates are in general bad for engines, unless that engine was specifically built to run one. Second, with a full throttle application, the kids won't get discouraged when their boat won't plane off.

There will be two catagories, aluminum prop, and stainless, that way if a person could not drop $350.00 for a prop, they would not run at a disadvantage. Both prop classes would run on the same water at the same time. The case would have to have F-N-R with a shift lever in the boat.

Standard centered steering cables with afactory bracket would be used, so you don't get boned into dropping $120.00 for steering bars.

You can pick up any E-bay motor for $500.00 and up, add gas and go racing.

total package cost could easily be under $5,000.00 with some type of trailer.

Though Miss KTDoodle is running, and won 2nd overall in her first series, I am very disgusted with the availablity of parts, engines and alike. That's why you just make it simple. A sit down boat that would hit 40 at it's best, is a hell of alot safer and easier than a kneeler that can only turn hard lefts and not take a 6" wave well.
So, thats the plan, I had actually thought of building some type of step bottom with a very light tunnel underneath to avaoid the use of a fin. A Speedliner similar to what my dad and others raced in the 50's could also be run on a pleasurable day at a lake where the kids just wanted to bring their friends and hammer down to get used to the water.

The current class system is not user friendly, unless you have a family who is made of boat racers and knows where to find the pieces to make the class work. The goal is to attract new blood, in larger quantities into the sport, ad also have a dual use boat. It was not even so much the money as it was the unecessary logistics.

Roy- What Class does the big gal fit into? Now that you have gone through the kneeling and lay down stages how does the yacht feel running the sit down and standing? Just having fun with you.

We are underway building the C/D version of the boat and I bought 2 "D" Mark 55-H engines. I am looking for 3 D quickie prop shafts and 2 "C" prop shafts. I have seen the on E bay at times. Anyone have contact info?
                            Thanks,
