I think you are basing everything on one boat and they are the exception.. No one else has a 40 that goes like there's in the US anywhere..

I would disagree with you on this one, I know of a few that are just as fast.

Mike I agree. We need to stop changing the rules each year to suit a few individuals. This is racing! If someone is faster than you then go home and do your homework to get faster yourself. By changing the rules for the few you ruin the racing for everyone else. I also agree with Dave M on this and we need to leave this class alone. As he has said sometimes the Tohatsu wins and sometimes the 40 merc will win. I believe this is what we want isn't it, not one brand dominating? And if this class rule change is only based on one race a year, the Nationals, then isn't this whole discussion just a bit nearsighted anyway?

No one answered the question? When was the 40" merc sold new at mercury dealerships? I think it was before I was born?

The weight for D runabout is 500lbs. If you take the average person weight which is around 180 lbs. ( not 110 lbs or 275Lbs) is isn't hard to make weight. The weight in the D hydro was raised from 440 to to 470 that is a pretty big jump but I think it is fair. The thing that gets me if it is so easy to make a 40CI Mercury to out run a Tohatsu why isn't everybody building one. I don't want to hear no parts. If you look enough you can find parts.

I think the Merc 300 was the last 40 c.i. Merc. It was last sold in 1960 or maybe 1961. It was followed by the Merc 350, based on the 44 c.i. powerhead.

Jeff; -we must start keeping better notes . Memory no longer works !
10 yrs ago , according to my notes, u sold me a really nice 40" motor
                M350 based, ie; 1961. Black 'turtle' top, a 2 port 40" block.
Ran real good , loose, but don't pull like a 44".

Thanks Brian, you and Pete corrected me. I must be thinking of the Merc 400 replacing the Merc 350.

My Tohatsu is at the end of its 7 the season and never has had anything done to it other than new fuel filters , reeds, water impeller and plugs , also fuel pump kit and base gasket. If it breaks this weekend it owes me nothing, way more dependable tha n even the Yamatos that I own. I will never vote to add any more weight to this class !!

I don`t think that anyone is proposing any performance enhancing changes to the Tohatsu. Or kicking out the Merc`s. Or adding weight or removing weight. Sometimes these threads take on a life of there own and bring out the paranoid in us.

If you want to kick out all the motors that are no longer being manufactured you would get rig of about 90% of the Mod Class in NBRA. These are the motors you would be getting rid of. A, B hot rods,C merc, 80,102 ,202Yamato,D 40CI Merc 44XS,E Merc 44, Se Omc 44 and 49 CI, Merc 75 and 650. So now you can run the Sidewinder and the Tohatsu good luck!!!

I'm not asking to kick out anything. It's just unbelievable to me that no one has had the guts to say, HEY! we have a great new motor that people want to buy (and have resurrected the dead class) that you don't need to be a machinist to make run, that anyone can go buy and be in the ballpark. I don't want 1 or 2 1950's model motors that are running to DOMINATE the class. (BTW, I will admit that I sandbagged for years local and non-title races Y-80& CMH SO, please don't give me the Tohatsu & merc both win routine) when it really counts, the merc always seems to dig deep and pull out lap times "unlike" non-championship lap times. (Saw it & ran timer in person, plus, after 20+ years I can see it from the bank) so, with that feel free to tell me how wrong I am. It sucks to have your antique stuff eliminated but as the owner of a bunch of antiques (DM, EM, y-80) you just need to think about the future.

Well after reading all of these posts I can see the positive/negative and pro/con of each post...... So may be time to HIJACK this thread and redirect to how do we get 8-10 races this next year like Centralia, Mt. Home, Jacksonville and Grove where we have great tow money,,,great support from the town and our local sponsor and great water to race on????????
