  • Good points Chris...

I haven't read any of the other posts really but wanted to stick one thing in here...

Racing dirt bikes, sportbikes, sleds and seadoos all have one HUGE difference... you can use these "toys" any time, any place. I have a $8000 Supermoto race bike I bought as a toy. It came with all the proper goodies to use on the road too. I can race it, ride it at track days or on the street. I ride it to work every day in the summer. I spend about $1000 on it in parts a year and $1000 in insurance. BUt it's still good value. Race boats are not good value at almost any price. I would not dream of spending that on a race boat. Boats today are not designed to handle normal water. It's getting harder and harder to use them outside of racing. Even testing is a problem for many people.

The factory will support these other sports because the general public can go buy one and use it more or less anywhere. So there are sale to be made.

People who get into boat racing must be committed to racing before they buy anything. I don't ever see a real factory backing racing for us again unless it is because of good will.

    Editted for typo... DOH!

    • Andrew,
Good points on other motor sports but not many have the level of Family and comrodery (SPELL CHECK ) that boat racer enjoy. Also, in the 6 short years since I bought my first rig from Dean Sutherland, I have come to at least recognize almost every name of todays Racer's.
I will go to boat races long after my knees won't let me drive in the not too distant future, if only to hang out with this Family/Fraturnity of BOAT RACERS .

      • Excellent points Steve. This is so true when compared to bike racing... my first race Graham and I went to town for an hour or two after my races... we came back at like 7 and figured we'd hang out with everyone and join a camp fire, like we would at a boat race. We arrived at the track to a lone bike under an EZUP in the middle of an empty field... my bike. No one stayed... Graham and I pulled up and parked and made some food, had a drink, shot the $hit and eventually crashed in the tent as the coyotes moved in... haha (j/k about the animals). I think that is what will always keep me around boat racing and why I'm working so har to make it work up here. This is a selling feature for us, be we have to get them at the race first.
