Oh I think he understood and had it right.

I would welcome Scott with open arms. He's a good guy, a few racing politics aside. We agree on more than you could probably guess.

Plus maybe it would get Backus to show up again at a race.

Let's see if we can hit the 30,000 views on this thread.

    • Scott you are correct, it did upset many, but it was more than Region 6 & Region 7. For the SORC to replace you it took more than those two regions to vote you out and someone else in.

I guess what I don't understand is, we are using the process that is in place, why is that an issue? I’m not going to repeat all our reason why...the SORC/Parity committees past performance...or that we are seeing future class participants waiver on what to do...and so on…

      • When can we end this conversation. I need Reed focused on boat projects.

First off, I apologize Reed for unloading on you. Morons do that now and then. That doesn't change my feelings about the Merc being removed from being the replacement A motor. The J racing committee has done a fantastic job promoting Stock Outboard racing and bringing new families into our sport. The APBA supplied propeller is huge for the new member and its COST AFFECTIVE. It only made sense, for me anyway that the Merc would be the replacement A motor. Lets see says new guy dad. I get into this really fun sport that has a lot of really cool fun helpful people and can spend about 7 grand and my kid can race boats, competitively. Wait just one darn minute, I already bought the trailer, so for about another 5 grand I can buy a Yamoto and race too, because its somewhat AFFORDABLE, yippy skippy. Not picking on you Reed but whoever is manning the helm had better take a long hard look at what takes for new members to jump in and go. I've been part of a boat racing family since I was a child, Slept in my uncles B hydro as a infant at the races and my first sandbox was a old B runabout. I have a lot love this crazy sport and see it slowly dying. Don't have all the answers but we better make some better choices. Would be nice to see Backus again, I miss my midday bath.

Seriously....It's November, first West Coast race is in three weeks! Looks like one of the new composite boats will possibly be there!

I haven't posted here or didn't accept the nomination for Stock Chairman with the expectation that everyone was going to agree with me.

I understand why APBA was attracted to the Merc and the J Committee has done an excellent job of promoting kneel down boat racing in through the J category. In hind sight what was once thought to be Stock Outboards worst mistake, creating a seperate class AXS and handing it off to the J committee was in fact the best thing that could have happened for the Merc and for the J category.

The problem became what to do with the 100 or so A drivers at the time, were we to slow down the OMC A platform to meet the Mercury at the A weight whihc would have been a speed slower than the AXS or focus on trying to parity the new Sidewinder A, but hat is a whole nother can of worms.

The only place we differ is on a National Cahmpionship race and National Points for the Merc in the A class. I stated allow them to step to race in the A class for all the reasons you stated. But stepping up would prevent parity to favor the Mercury in the A class. There by allowing Mercury to continue its dominace in the J category.

There we no OMC's in the J category races at the Nationals this year and there were no Mecrury's raced in the A classes at the nationals this year.

Keeping good used motor invenotries for both categories.

One might argue the recent popularity of the 302SSH class could stunt the growth of the 20SSH and CSH class now, becase we have limited access to the 302 and the sealed 302 will not compete in the 20 and C. We had unlimited invenotry of SW's for 20SSH.

We are trying to go a different route in obtaining motors for the class....don't want to make it hard for drivers that want to get into C and 20 etc by making the 302 motor hard to get. Dave

                    • Dave,
Tell us more about how we buy the 302 Yamato engine! 500mod (apba) and C mod hydro (nbra)have the same problem.

Stock forgets that we exist sometimes .

                      • The way the 302 class is set up, I think it will only help grow 20ssH and CSH.

In fact, we are already seeing this take place. One of our areas AX drivers is moving up to 302ssH. They already bought a spare head and gearcase so he can race 20ssH as well. Literally a 5 minute swap and he will get to run another class.

I see this as a big positive.

Nicely done Dave and the SORC.

With no available inventory right now. Where do you buy a newly imported 302 for C and 20 right now? I only ask the question because everything is What if scenerios.

What if the SW goes 70?
What if the 302 is set to 3/4" in 20 and the 80 can compete?
What if people actually will spend $5000 for a motor?
What if we have drivers for C and cannot get a 302?
What if we have drivers for 20 and cannot get a 302?
What if SW could deliver you a race ready motor in 7 days?
What if we have interest in 302SSH and Yamato cannot or will not meet demand with the current platform?
What if they can't find a good used boat for 302SSH but already have a boat for 20 SW?
What if we just left everything in stock alone for 2 years?
What if we let everything play out for one year?
What if APBA took over all of the good classes to promote as is and left the table scraps to the categories to promote?

I’ll try and answer these questions.

                                1. It may go 70, probably will, which will be good if it’s in with the 25’s.
                                2. Maybe it should if people are struggling at ½ inch with the 302’s. We have not gone the 302 direction so I have no firsthand knowledge out of our trailer. But, it probably would hurt our teammates, but that is OK if it’s for the good of the class.
                                3. Not sure I get the point of this question. But we know some will spend it. Let’s not forget though, that almost 80% of our drivers race a class less than 8 times. Which is the large majority and they need to be protected also or you or I will have no one to race against.
                                4. We will cross that bridge if it happens. While I think you do need to be forward thinking at some things, we can’t assume anything at this point in regards to not being able to get 302’s.
                                5. See above
                                6. That’s great.
                                7. See 4 & 5
                                8. ?????????
                                9. Nope, we don’t have a solid plan. We come up with a plan that great let’s lock it in.
                                10. Nope, it’s another year of confusion.
                                11. Interesting.

                                My turn

                                1. What if we find out that the 80% who race 8 times or less don’t want to spend 5000.00 on engines. These are also the guys you & I and others sell our used boats to and they don’t want to spend 3500.00/4000.00 on new boat either?
                                2. What if Backus decided to come back and race? (I just want to make sure he’s paying attention)
                                3. What if you do get transferred to Region 7? (Would that get Backus out of semi-retirement)
                                4. What if Troy buys a B & H. (once again making sure Troy is paying attention)
