This thread is once again Mike Pavlick’s fault. I don’t think he was suggesting a rule change just clarification.

All we wanted to know is, what rules are we playing by so we can beat Reed. There was some conversations in the pits last weekend on what the boat rules are.

Maybe it is my fault for suggesting we should build one, because I was pretty sure special boats had been used earlier in the year. But if John says that is the wrong direction then I believe him, well sort of, maybe we’ll build one to test ourselves.

      Boat?

Yes.... The intent of my post was to get clarification on the boat rule for 1/4 Mile records.

There were lots of good suggestions on how to regulate/keep the event consistent around the country, which is why this forum can be helpful. I'm sure the SORC will discuss some of the ideas for the 1/4 Mile in more detail in January...another good thing.

At this time, it looks as if any boat can be used in the 1/4 Mile. Sound right??

Gleason, I'm glad you proposed the idea. SUPER fun event!! I'm sure there will be even more boats at these events in the future.

Darren your right it was frikken fast with Fuschlin power. Paul Fuschlin was just as fast when he ran FER in the day before he went PRO as I seen plenty of his rooster tails over the years, then again when we both went to Pro.

                          12 records at d lake!

Unofficially 12 records set this weekend in Oregon! I don't think many were kilos. Mostly 1/4 mile! Which is awesome in the renewed interest in speed records! Congrats to all! Pat Brian's was very cool to watch! Also the 350cch record by mr. Ramsey was cool because he is a new racer! Over 100 mph too!

Fun dueling with Lewis and Peeters for csr record! Both went over my record today in one way passes while I sweated on the beach in inspection! Lol

                            Yo To All,

Prior to about 1968 (and by the way the Straightaway records used to be 1 mile, then APBA made it 1 Kilo to be consistent with UIM) anyway, to discourage "Special Straight-a way boats", the rule used to be that you had to run the boat in at least 1 closed course race and finish at least 3rd or better.

That would even the playing field....... you might even consider a 500' bouy, that you would have to "go around" before entering the 1/4 mile traps.

Congratulations to All, and Good Luck.

                              Dean,
I was thinking, outside course markers on both ends that you can't go beyond. They would be in addition to the entrance and end of the chute. Located at some specified distance from the course.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

To make it really different, and as an alternative idea to a short run-in, how about a "rolling" off-plane start, as the drag boats do it, and as a few stock outboards actually did at the inboard drags, decades ago.

It's just an idea, now, and I'm not advocating for or against anything here, so don't beat on me.

Oh, and I said this elsewhere, Jim Ramsay is an old-timer come back. He was a top competitor, maybe Reg. 10 high point, in AOH (250ccH) in the mid-'60s.
