    Dayton Hydrobowl

Dayton Record Runs is interested in a 2013 combined Stock & Mod Nationals. We would likely run the event as two separate races with the Mods the first weekend and the stocks the second. This way we could get the participation of a combined nationals but still draw those who only want to race one category and who will not attend a week-long event.

This is the type of thinking I support. Finally someone who embraces the idea that a stock nationals need not be a week long. Given professional and personal commitments it is difficult finding the time to support a week long boat race.

      Hope it works out.

I will be playing with schedules for the 2014 (13?) moses lake nationals for Stock/mod/j. This is what i proposed at the national meeting to the mods (who were concerned with long road trip and the full week).

Monday: stock testing with drivers meeting
tuesday: stock elims (as many as we can), Mod Reg
Wednesday: Mod reg/drivers meeting/testing and start of Mod elims
        Thursday: finish all elims stock/mod/j
        Friday and Saturday: finals.
        Sunday: blow off (all important).

I think Week long events are still needed for a combined nationals. But when only one category can be slimed to a thurs-sun event (but you do want people at your banquet, which is why most combined end saturday).

We are unfortunately not in the days of 4-5 elims per class where week long event were needed. CSH was the only class with 3 elim heats at Grass Lake....But with so many classes in all the categories week long sometimes are still needed, but arranging the schedule a certain way can help people.

Jeff worked his heart out on this. I can understand his frustration.

The local authorities did not control the water. At one point we had a guy with an old Chris Craft try to run down the race course by the entry chute.

Even some of the rescue boats from the city put us on hold from making giant swells.

All in all it was a great race. Saturday was a trying day.

Hinton sounds fun. I haven't been there since 76.

Love ya Troy but many people like the idea of the Nationals being a VACATION and trying to cram down a weeks racing into 4 days is stressful and provides little time for after race activities!!

I think it is cool to be done every day at 3pm and give a little test time to drivers. Then by 4pm families and friends can partake in social activities and have a chance to be together in a relaxed atmosphere.

Also it is important to be done early on the weekend to allow the inspectors several hours to complete inspection in a careful and not be rushed timephrame. At Grass Lake this was the case. At Rainbow City it was not. Jeff Williams was using flashlights at 8pm trying to complete inspection.

The Nationals are a EVENT and should be treated as such.......threy are not in my opinion to be 'crammed' into 4 days to accomadate someones work schedule. Just my 2 cents.

ps.............as much as i love Dayton, it is hard to register in the dark at 6:30am and start racing at 9am and run till the sun sets!! This may be ok for a club local race but not for a Stock Outboard Nationals. Our premier race should be a EVENT to remember as was the case with the MHRA effort!

Troy: This was the concept of the 2005 Dayton Nationals. Unfortunately, because of the weather and the fact that it took us WAY TOO LONG to move the course from one end of the lake to the other, the program lasted until 7pm in the evening the day of the finals. This was because the race committee I appointed fought me on moving the course and made a 1 hour project take 3 hours. Because of this, all anyone seems to remember is that a 3 day Stock Nationals requires racing into the evening. But that would not have been the case had my team executed Plan B immediately.

Matt's sentiment is the sentiment of all of the hard-core, lifer boat racers. Unfortunately, we are a dwindling number. The Nationals needs to accomodate those who cannot or will not take an entire week to go to a boat race.

See what I mean about the memory of the 2005 Nationals! The Saturday of the finals took 9 hours to run off. But we were only racing 6 of those hours. It only takes an hour to move the course to the other end of the lake if the wind blows. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN as long as I am in charge!

I believe Whitney Point was one of the considerations for the 2012 nationals. Geographically, I believe it would be more than fair to award the 2013 nationals to Whitney Point. Although, Dayton would not be a bad idea, it is only 4 hours south or so from the previous years nationals. And, Wakefield and Moses Lake have the the 2014 and 2015 all lined up already. Also, I believe the last Whitney Point had a substantial showing, over 525 entries at the last nationals it had.

My vote would be for Whitney Point, NY or Dayton, Ohio.

                            2013

Isn't Wakefield the next town over from Moses Lake?

Whitney Point has interest in speaking with us.

Dayton would be a good option.

I would not opposed to going back to Grass Lake if they could host the mods too

Someone mentioned to me that Dayton is a great site but quite prone to white-caps if there is any wind at all.

Whitney Point is a good candidate!! Good pits and water access, camping and accomodations good too.

Grass Lake is surely a good spot. And, probably the most centrally located for the Left and Right coasts.
