Pull up Briggs and Stratton Animal and there is a lot of info on them. They can be had for $455.00, usually run methanol. All these engines bolt up the same.
Don't be calling my motor "CHEAP"......I bought it from NR Racing in Michigan: Heavy duty valve springs, racing flywheel, big carb, big exhaust pipe and silencer. $359 delivered o California. I paid $129 FOR THE SECOND MOTOR direct from Harbor Freight.

I only see a problem on he off set skeg if you plan to turn RIGHT... http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forum...+anzani&page=2 Checl this motor's set up of Jerry Walin's.

    On the inboard drive:

    1. I considered copying the RC BOATS including using a flex drive shaft. I was going to make my flex driveshaft out of a telephone pole twisted wire and run it inside a Teflon pipe.........MIGHT WORK...

    2. I wanted an INTRODUCTION MOTOR. I INTENTIONALLY built it so, you could put it on an OLD hydro, and run it. Or you could run it on a new hydro, and then take it off and put on a new Mercury AXS.

      Ok, So.......Your "Gearcase"

the pic is rotated so the angled end would be the bottom of the skeg

So, your "gearcase" would be a piece of 3/8 aluminum... (First picture)

My idea was like the second picture....

FYI: The Beaver Dam jumping boat uses a Briggs Animal motor and a 9 X 9 prop and will go 31 MPH on that 14 foot John Boat... The leading edge of the mud prop is 1/4 of an inch thick...Sharpen the prop would give it 5 MPH!

OH, Hell, I Thought Everyone Was On My Side

I was joking...These motors are cheap, but that's the plan. My dad sold my brother HOME MADE KR in 1955 for $35. MY BROTHER HAD WON THE HEARST REGATTA WITH IT IN 1949....

I get the feeling here, that other are going to be fooling with these CHEAP Motors...and other like it, too!

If a John Boat can 31 MPH, we can 40 MPH.

This is the "A" gear case my dad made in 1949. I'm think I'll take t apart can copy it except where the gears go, I'll use a pulley...Between my thumbs, I will widen the casting out, so the belt can run inside the gearcase....

Did you aee whee the speedometer pick up was???? Now days, that pick up wouldn't even hit the water!
