That's where I was when "The King" died. I was 3 1/2 years old in 1977 and remember it vividly.

      2012 Central Divisionals

As of now, plans are underway for the Central Divisionals in Akron (Lakemore) Ohio July 14-15 hosted by Three Rivers Outboard Racing Association. We have been holding that event in mid July for several years now.

Hinton is a great site. TRORA hosted the SO/MOD Nationals there in 1993, 95and 97.

Avoiding date conflict is ideal for everyone. I understand at times it is unavoidable.

      Good luck with the venue.

      Dana

Yeah, me too. I remember someone telling me when I arrived in the pits that morning. Was hard to believe.

              Hinton

Only 8 hours away for the Atlanta gang, count us in. July race would fill a large void for me.

Sounds awesome if this can work. I've heard stories, seen home video (JW Myers, Susan Raughtenberg, Patrick Gleason, David Anderson of 1993) Sounds like a great place to race! Maybe if this can work, another nationals could be in the works for future years....

How about we consider dropping Wilson from our schedule since it's so expensive for the club and we just go to Hinton instead? The local businesses and Chamber of Commerce in Wilson provide zero support for the race. I'd drive the extra three hours to support a community willing to support the races. It's getting hard for me to justify spending $650.00 for two days of racing.......and that excludes food, lodging, and transportaion costs. Just a thought.

Fred, Hinton is a great place to race and it is a very good location for everyone in the East. Being this is a Club race I think we need to have this on our notes for our next Club meeting. Scheduling and member participation is key. Thanks for all of your hard work in taking the lead on this project.

                            Hinton!!

I was co-race director or inspector at 93, 95, 97 MO/SO/J nationals. Absolutley one of my favorite race tracks!! On a side note, buy a new 1000' spool of rope as you'll need it to anchor the buoys. The place is deep.

Hope you can work it all out. Best of luck.

I do believe the SO nats. were there in 1987..
The Mods were in Kansas that year and I know after
that a lot of drivers headed east,, Included John Broge and
Rob Zilka.. That was the year that my 15 year old daughter fell
in love with Mr. Zilka.. He had convinced her to go with him and
John to the SO nats.. I thought is was all right just,, but just wanted
to know when they crossed the Kansas line into Missouri as
the authorities would probably like to know..Rob asked me why
and a told him that his date would not be 16 until Nov. 23rd.
You know the rest of the story... And this was all the truth. LOL

                                Tips

I suggest you look over the Hydroracer threads from years back about Hinton. There was a reason we were not racing there after the combined Nationals. You might want to contact some of the race officials from that time and what they encountered to prevent racing there for the last decade or so. Would not want to make the same mistake twice. I assume the city officials have changed over and the new officials really don't have a clue about the past. That might be good, but just make sure the bases are covered from that perspective.

I have raced there a few times, and enjoyed it. The cabins in the woods behind the race course are nice, and so is Pipestone or is it Pipestem campground about 5 or 10 miles down the road. Nice pits, and the spectator view is second to none. Put a couple turn judges up there, you will find it tells all.
