Great that you have an opportunity to return to Hinton. That date will not be ideal, but you may have no other choice. USTS conducts its annual Speed Week including the Nationals the following two weekends following the suggested date and it is maybe 15 days before SO/MOD nationals. For a number of years, we had to run right after the PRO nationals and right before the SO nationals. This allowed us to pick up some boats from Florida headed home from DePue, but hurt SO participation.
This is a wonderful racing venue and has a long history of hosting outstanding races. The back to back Nationals in 1975 and 1976 for SO and PRO's were amazing events in terms of number of participants. Best of luck.David Weaver

The July 14/15 weekend is one weekend after Thompson, CT. I verified that with Shawn Weber. It's also two weeks before the Stock Outboard Nationals. I know this is not ideal, but it's the best they had available. They have a large concert series the Fourth of July weekend so we didn't want to compete with that. The city also hosts a lot of bass fishing tournaments so early scheduling is critical.
They do have a large water festival the first week of August which would coincide with a Nationals event. I asked them for two-three....possibly four years of solid support and then we would look to schedule a National event. The city is motivated.
The Chamber of Commerce is sending a member down to the Tabor City race later this fall to observe an event. I will also be driving out to Hinton to address the City Council and Chamber of Commerce. If any of you have a list of "lessons learned" or "best practices" for conducting an event the city of Hinton sure would like to see it. You can send me a PM and I'll provide you with my email address.
