        One KG-4

        To All,

I still have my KG4.... 506879 serial number..... all the parts that came with the motor including the tank and serial number plate.

I raced this motor from 1964 to 1979... it set 4 world records. Three 1-2/3 mile course records in 1973, 1974, and 1979 and one kilo straightaway record in 1974.

I used a MK 15 from 1980 to 1985... the last year for the Mercurys.
(Never broke the record with the MK 15)

The records for the KG4 were:

1973 on the 1-2/3 course.... 52.xxx something mph.
1974 on the 1-2/3 course.... 53.xxx something mph. (About 1 mph faster)

The next two I can remember:

        1974 kilo straightaway.... 60.884 mph.

        1979 on the 1-2/3 course.... 55.215 mph.

All with R. Allen "Papa" Smith" propellers.

        Here's a picture.

        Best Regards,

        Dean Hobart.......

            A KG-7 fishing powerhead with a Q and H Quikie and a 25SS.

Hope some day to get a MK55H in order to run DCH.

It is a Karelsen A Stock Hydro. Similar to a Sid-Craft. Fabric front deck.

              Circa 1964.

                  motors

I have 2 KG4s but with the stock lower unit, not the quickies....looking for a quickie lower if you have a spare!
When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!

Just started a few years ago: 2 stock Mercury 60j's. 2 Champion Hot Rod J's, 1 Mercury Super 5 year unknown, Merc 7.5 J

60j's are run on a regular basis in the summer. They can push a modern "A" hydro pretty well- 32mph. Not like the old days, but the kids have fun.

During Labor Day, there are 6+ 60j's that race, some of them in classic hydros- PriceCraft, Hobart, Craig Craft (sorry for any mis spellings)
