I do have one question. Is there suppose to be a seal between the pipe and the header? Like an "o" ring or something. I torqued the header block as much as I dare in kind of a head torque sequence.

Probably won't fire it off till our test session. Have to put everthing in the trailer for a display at our new race site this Saturday. Have to do the promotion thing.

            Mike,

You can use a silicone O ring between the pipe and header flange, but you will have to replace it every 2 or 3 heats. On a gas motor they just won't hold up to the heat. I use them on my Pro motors and they last all season. Their is about 1/16" clearance built into the header and inlet tube. This is for sliding the pipe in and out. As soon as the exhaust gets hot the header pipe swells up. Without this clearance the pipe would bind up. Also the header pipe is tapered, so the end is larger in diameter than it is pulled up to the flange.

This pipe system is one Lee designed several years ago and has proven itself time and time again. Just ask Wartinger and J.Michael Kelly, they both hold c-mod records with the same pipe set-up. If you want the BEST call Lee Tietze @ Machined Components.

Thanks Lee, I will just let her swell up. Really nice work. Gee, I guess you know I got the stuff! The boat in the back ground is being made just for the new tower. Started on it a week ago. Hope to have the bottom on next week.

My first time in a mod boat and a laydown to boot. Should be a hoot

Just curious but what would be a good speed to look for in C mod when we test this weekend. Basically we want to know how far off we are.

J/K If I remember correctly probably low 70's for the size of courses you'll be running

Who else is making these? Lee is sold out of the 102 pipes.

I would order one. He is behind right now because everyone waited till the last minute but his are real good. Plan to find out this weekend weather permitting. Heading out tomorrow.

                              Top Speeds

A real, real good CMH will see closer to the 80 MPH range. Still high 70's. Scott Clark told me his good motor and boat and prop will see over 80MPH on a bigger course.

To be competitive at local races I would say mid 70's is reasonable to run in the middle and possibly towards the front. If you are racing against the top contenders in the class, then you best be towards that 80MPH mark.

If running a short course, as a lot of them are in the Midwest, low 70's might be the ticket.

I guess we will get the boat dialed in and then go for the speed. I will be happy if we hit low 70's to start with. Most of our courses over here are on the short sprint side. We have 12 props to try and then we will wait for the lower tower and raising the motor on the new Mod boat.

I was at the APBA web site looking at the records. The speeds are really high for such small boats.
