Gents, to answer a few previous questions:
Top'O Michigan Marathon is the 2008 Stock Outboard Marathon National Championships. IT is a 2-day event scored like 2 heats of a short course race. It is for runabouts only. "JR" and AXSR run a shorter course than the regular full-sized boats but it, too, is considered their National Championship. There is no official National Championship in the Stock Classic division. Matter of fact, I don't know of any races or national points ever awarded for Stock Classics. However, Darrell Sorensen was the driving force in creating this sub-division of Stock Outboard and this may be the start of a new era in outboard racing. I want to be part of it. APBA rules that apply to Stock Outboard racing will also apply to the Stock Classics that register for the inaugural race at Top'O. Boats must meet safety requirements, drivers must wear appropriate safety gear, be licensed and registered, etc. I think there are NO weight rules. It isn't REALLY a National Championship for Stock Classics so I'm not sure if a driver might be allowed to "join APBA" for a day. I want to encourage new marathoners and particularly new racers to use this event as an introduction to marathons. I'd like the race committee to make it as easy as possible for them to participate. One-day membership is allowed for local racing, it is not allowed in real "Championship" events. Race committee will have to weigh in with APBA to get a ruling on this issue.
A licensed driver MAY run Stock Classic on one day with one engine and the regular full-length marathon the next, but, the Stock Outboard National Championship Marathon is a 2-day event. This driver will have a great weekend of racing but would likely not be competitive in point totals for the Championship. More to follow. This is gonna' be FUN ! Mike Raceboat61-S
