This is an invaluable website, and I'm glad to say that the SORC (Stock Outboard Racing Commission) voted to help support it.

The new APBA web site is a navigation mess; their core message is the very thing that is killing the new format. Crown has taken the approach that it will make APBA “everything boat racing” which in turn makes the site a miss match over crowded mess.

No one site can ever be everything to everyone which is why most sites pick their niche and stick with it. Trying to recreate the image with all new logos and bells and whistles will do nothing to help the brand. In reality the core work should be done offline and behind the scenes. APBA needs professional staff out in the field wining and dining with the real movers and shakers of the industry. The association needs partners with deep pockets and funding out the ass.

If the sport and association is ever going to succeed and become a mainstream name brand it will take way more than a message board and a new web site. These are great tools and a start but will not even scratch the surface when it comes to finding wealthy investors and partner corporations willing to invest. The recent involvement of Peters & May is a prime example but the partnership with Peters & May will only go so far. They need serious funding, membership dues and sanctioning fees will never be enough to propel the association into the mainstream.

Ask any young African American teenage kid what Stock Car Racing is and they will tell you NASCAR without hesitation. I use the analogy of a young African American teen because they are the highest percentage of the population without broadband access or access to many other social media outlets but they still have heard of NASCAR.

Ask a any young teen African American or any race for that matter what powerboat racing is? With all the methods that have been available over the last decade the APBA has never advertised itself and now in 2012 its attempting to make a name for itself.

      Good luck!

*Bob Dunlap said it best on another post in 2012 people still walk over to race boat trailers at gas stations and ask what is that?

                  Associate membership

The Associate membership has wrong info. I posted this at the APBA site but it seems like there's never more than 4 ever online at once.

                  * Associate membership : Monthly subscription to APBA's Propeller magazine, membership card, APBA decals and various discounts. Only $25 per year

If I was a new member and found out after the fact that I only was going to get 4 issues of Propeller I wouldn't be very happy.

Under Federal law it is false advertising that requires remedial compensation if someone complains - extend to full contract or refund ... if the FTC doesn't require a punishment on top of the compensation.

Since Crown is responsible, I am certain they will refund APBA any costs incurred.
