May 11, 2009 – Edgewood, Kentucky
Team Racecraft has lost its captain. Robert “Ponch” or “Pop” Trolian, Sr., passed away today from complications following a stroke at the age of 64. Trolian began racing outboard boats in the 1960’s and then began making fiberglass and plastic molded design hydros and runabouts. Trolian was retired as a Vice-President of Manufacturing from the Glasstron and Wellcraft Divisions of Genmar in Gainsville, Florida. He was a long-time member of the American Power Boat Association (APBA) of Eastpointe, Michigan where he served as a participant, race director and officer. Trolian was inducted into the APBA’s Hall Of Champions in 1991 and into the Association’s Honors Squadron in January of 2009, receiving the APBA's highest honor for his contributions.
He is survived by his wife Linda, five (5) children, Robert Trolian, Jr., Paul Trolian, Sharon Kerr (Terry), Teniell Trolian and Brian Trolian (Tracy), four (4) grandchildren, Kayla Kerr, Danielle Trolian, Emily Kerr and Dominick Trolian and his extended boatracing family. His entire immediate family quickly gathered to his side in Kentucky following his illness and all were present when he passed from this life.
Funeral arrangements are pending. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the APBA Junior Category Scholarship Fund.
