Why "Target" 25SSR?
Gotta chime in here..First by far the best "plan" so far..BUT I must agree w/Sam (My Fellow Team Casual Racer)..Whats wrong with 25SSR? We field 3-4 CSR's and 3-4 25SSr's Every weekend..heck we bring a CLASS with Us where ever we go...I know for sure MHRA's P&L will be alittle more to the "L' without a 25SSR class..already running 3 in 2 to break even. I guess I lean more to the number of entries vs number of members. Oh well my same $0.02 again..Roger A 68M

The status quo will not work. We need change and a class structure we can market that's not confusing to an outsider.Last edited by Racerkyle20; 12-21-2012, 04:32 AM.Kyle Bahl

This proposal directly effects three of the classes I run, 20ssh, 25ssr, and csr. Yet I'm mostly in favor of it. I would love to get a sidewinder and race the new 20ss classes once I can afford it (**** student loans). I worry though that some sort of plan needs to be made to ease the transition from our current classes to the new classes. I would guess that it would probably take 2-3 years for people to aquire and get going with the new sidewinder, if people decided to get after it fairly aggressively. I'm not sure there's enough 80's out there to fill the gap. I could see a scenario where the restricted 302 is booted and the class just disappears until (if) people get sidewinders. I think the simplest thing would be to add weight or make smaller restrictors making the restricted boats increasingly slower over say 3 years time until nobody wants to run that combination. But, someone with a csh could still put a friend in it to get them hooked.

20ssH
Jeff and SORC,
I would encourage you to keep the Y302 and Y102 in the 20ssH class. Lots of great competition now between Y80s and Y302s. I don't understand the rationale for wanting to change one of the most popular, affordable, and competitive classes. What am I missing??

Keep 20SSH affordable
This opinion is of mine and a few other "leaders" in MHRA:
The 20SSH class is the most affordable, competitive class in Stock Outboard, if not possibly in kneeldown racing period. From a Driving School perspective, for those that do not have a decently sufficient pocketbook to dive in full force to racing, the 20SSH class is the way to go.
For around $1100-1200 a person can buy a cheap Yamato 80 - will it win the Nationals? No. But will it be competitive enough where driving hard and a good start will be able to put you in the Top 3 at any regional race? Yes. Spending $1K-1500 on a boat, and additional safety equipment, you can easily get into the sport under $5K if not 4K. After they acquire equipment they can choose to upgrade to the 302 or the Sidewinder - or the occasional guy that gets into CSH with a 102 can get extra time in the 20 class.
I believe this class is one of the keys to leave alone. I am not speaking from my own motorbox but instead as someone who got into the sport on the cheap and probably would not done so if this class was not the way it currently is.Elek Hutchinson

Good discussion guys and I can understand your points. I am curious though what the difference would be for 20SSH. It would be even cheaper to get into with a Model 80 and not have to get beat by the bigger restricted engines. (I can see more Model 80's coming out of the trailer boxes with this plan) Does it really matter whether you are getting beat by a Sidewinder or a 302? It's is all the same spray in the face I would think. (Just asking)
If we go with any plan, we have got to have an affordable way to get started in each one in my opinion and this plan does have that.
My main class has been 25SSH for a lot of years and it is getting blended into CSH in this proposal, but I will deal with that if this plan helps the sport in the long run.
I personally do not enjoy CSR due to the lead I have to add. If I can run it lighter and not have the boat tell me which way were going..I might get serious about that class again with my 102!
I received an email from a past leader of our sport and I have to share it.
"I don't care what we race, just let me know what it is and I will race it!"
I have at least one of every engine we are talking about resting peacefully in my basement. It honestly doesn't matter to me which way the SORC votes, I will drag something up those steps in the spring and race.
Just a few thoughts on a snowy Friday afternoon....Last edited by Jeff Brewster 59s; 12-21-2012, 11:37 AM.
