    Moving on...

I just got back from work. These 12hr. days 6 days a week are gonna wreck me!
Ya know, One problem with these message boards is, words and intentions get misunderstood so easily. I'm sure if we were all sitting at the same table (or bar) we'd all have a great time and leave with a lot of good information exchanged.
    So lets move on.
Lets say a sanctioning body and club have been chosen to host this race. And a club official has viewed the race site and agrees that it will be an outstanding place to hold a race. I would bet that the next step should be to gather together a race comittee. I mean a comittee separate from the race club. One that would execute all the tasks that need to be done on a local level and by local folks. Tasks like, Advertising, fund raising, lodging accomodations, toilet facilities, race programs, cleanup after the races, etc.
Does this sound like the right next step?

      Jeff,
This whole idea sounds like a learning experience for everyone. Since I don't have all the answers, I am inviting everyone (Keith Kampen and Ed included) to help out here. We can public actually take the birth of a race site from beginning to end with everyone helping and in front of the eyes of the entire boat racing world.

      This would be my suggestion:
      1. Find out if this site is even workable. There is no use to peruse it if not.
You have raced long enough. What is your gut feeling? How many boats can the lake handle? What speeds? How many acres is the lake? Pit area?
      2. Can you get state or city or county permits?

I would say that these are the first questions to ask. Once these are answered, then we can proceed with step 2.

Anyone know of a geological map that would help out with acres?

      Connie

              Where it's at.

              Here's a map showing Saybrook,IL. location.
Saybrook is highlighted with the big green star. Just to the east of Bloomington/Normal.
It's a lot closer to Chicago than I thought. Not too far from a lot of the Indiana guys either.

Kevin, We need to get together to throw around a few ideas. Do you think you'll be at the region 7 spring meeting? If not, maybe I'll see you at Burlington.

                  Not a dead topic yet...

                  Just to inform everyone interested,
The plans for this race site have not been scrapped. We have all decieded the best step to take next is to do some testing with a larger class boat, to see if the short race course is gonna work. I'm gonna get down there with my DSH to try it out. Hopefully, then we will get a better understanding of what type of race we can hold at this site.
The race site has a lot of things going for it. I hope it works out!
