  • possible new AOF race

Jeff55v asked me to see if the person that puts on our local Saybrook race would be interested in a AOF race. he is interested
more to follow as details progress.
lots of camping there or 1/2 mile away at my house & about 15 miles to a couple of motel's with no traffic!!!
I had spoke to him in the past about an APBA race. but the bucks it takes spooked him as there is no way he could conceive of ever coming close to a break even race weekend

Cool, Let me know how it proceeds. What classes. Email national office at
      AOFOffice@aol.com
Need about $200 for insurance, and $60 for sanctions.

                Cool site!

This is great news! AOF may stand to gain a great new race site and some new members! Later I'll post some photos of the town's local racing activities. There is a lot of interest in boat racing in Saybrook.
My time is short right now as I'm working a lot of overtime. I'll get photos and more info gathered soon.

                  The next step...

Kevin, I'll drop Marty (the campground owner) an Email.
I'll try to keep most of this dialog online so you guys who know what your doing can correct me when I'm wrong.
So it looks like we found a sanctioning body to host the race.
So, I if we have the property owners endorsment, I guess the next step will be to find a club that will host it. We need to find an AOF affiliated club that would be willing to host this race in central Illinois. Then we need to invite a club official to view the site to see if it is an acceptable race site.

Here are some pics of the race site. These were taken in 2002 I think. It includes some pics of the great spectator area, and some of the boats the local folks came up with to race.

                    Central Illinois Race

If you are looking for a club to put this race race on the ODA would take a look at it. We put on the majority of the races in Central and Southern Illinois and Missouri. We are not an AOF club though. It would have to be a NBRA race for us to be involved.

                        APBA Race

APBA does have a program to allow the use of promotional funds to serve as "seed money" to help new sites get started. I hope you guys are planning on attending the Region 7 meeting in a few weeks to discuss this race. These region meetings might be a good place to have representatives of not only APBA, but also AOF and NBRA attend to determine which organization would be the best one for any particular site.

                        Onward and upward...

Can't help it, I gotta vent....

I have known Jeff for many years ...way back to my club putting on both AOF and APBA races in Moline. Jeff IS an AOF member.

Poor guy, as a good member of AOF he is trying to help out his organization, and he is getting leached on.

AOF might as well shut our doors. We are getting attacked from both ends now.

It was going to cost Jeff and Kevn only $200 for the entire week end of racing, (sanction and insurance) and he could have picked up a few new racers maybe. Grrom the site, then you vultures could swoop in the next year. But you aren't even giving him a chance to do that, or AOF! Talk about dirty politics.

(Hey, told you I had to vent).

Can't we all just get along?

Woah there, I'm flattered by the offers, really. I am thankful all of you fine folks are here to help.
Lets not turn this into a sanctioning body battle, please. I hate being caught in the middle of things. I consider all of you my friends.
I'll get together with Kevin and Marty to disscuss details.
Any more advice about establishing this site will be welcomed.
                            Thanks.

                              Jeff,
You have my number and email if you need me. The other AOF officers have offered to help. Don't worry about which sanctioning body. Go with what works best.
Unfortunately, you have just experienced just ONE of the reasons people aren't selling races, and others are just saying "screw it" to boat racing in general.
