Lemans start, 12 teams maximum with some sort of significant prize, money, trophy or something. If we had enough interest maybe the same format for the A class, run separately.

My concern is that after a week of racing most people want to be packed up and heading for home. So the question is? If we finish by 2:00pm Saturday would you still race a special event class between 3-5pm?

        Thanks,

            Lyons and Jennings...

Dean, do you think we'll really be racing that late if this is Stock only Nationals. Good point on starting this marathon thing at 2pm, when is the banquet? If it is run, we are in, no matter what time it is. Also, there are plenty of 102's and 302's available that won't be torn down. G. Lyons

We need some input from everyone. The dilemma is, IF we finish on time Saturday afternoon (which the schedule is between 1pm - 2pm), would any hydro drivers be interested in participating in a "Hydro Marathon" to keep our spectators interested? Or, if you have any suggestions for entertainment, I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks a bunch!

Didn't the last Nationals at Hinton end almost a full day early? Leaving the community jilted on a weekend of possible racing?

If the finals for the classes involved are on an earlier day in the schedule, isn't that plenty of time to reassemble the motors? Would any other accommodations be needed?

I think this is what Wendy is asking

                Tag team marathon.

If a tag team marathon is run, will it only be open to nationals competitors? I hope to come and support/spectate for at least part of the nationals, but I would love to bring my CSR and take part in a marathon.
Yes, Top'O is the following week, but I would take a chance on 'ruining' my stuff in order to compete. Hope it flies! KampKurz

Nothing is certain, we are just brainstorming

Twelve teams means 12 hydros and 12 runabouts willing to participate. We were thinking of preregistering the teams so we could put them on our website. Maybe make the buildup a little more fun. East vrs. West, kind of thing or MHRA takes on the U.S. or something fun.

If things go as planned and weather holds we WILL be racing on Friday and Saturday from 10-2. Seven classes on one day and six on the other. We plan on making a very "big deal" out of the finals, and the winner. Winners "circle" tent, trophy girls, sponsor photos, victory lap ect. Therefore, we will probably only run four heats an hour. We have sponsors we need to please and satisfy. The "show" or spectator day will be Saturday. Hence the need to possibly add some more "show" to the day.

The time we would need to fill would possibly be from 1:00 to 3:00. Still leaving two to three hours to pack the rigs prior to the banquet.

What do people think, could we get twelve committed teams?

                  Thanks,
                  Dean

                    I would think so Dean.
I will contribute a certificate for one pound of freshly roasted coffee to the winners

                      How about this...

Drivers from the same region not allowed to be on the same team, fostering friendships with people you don't normally race with...OR...a region v region, right coast v left coast, young v old, that sort of thing. As long we're storming our brains here why not make it a hurricane.

I don’t think you’d have any trouble getting 12 teams. I know I’m in for one. Also, I’d like to see more than 12 teams… something to think about

I believe in Wakefield we had a “finishing gate” for the first team member. When the preceding team member finished their laps and he/she crossed that gate, the next teammate could start and go. I believe this was done to keep it safe from people jumping in/out of boats and trying to tag and start… or even worse (for some) trying to run down the beach for a tag. I could see real problems with boats flying in with other people starting… props, people, hot boats coming off plane, people cranking on motors, ect…

I know I’d like to see the runabouts run the typical “grass lake marathon” course with both rights and lefts. However, my concern would be for the amount of entries in runabout then. I’m not sure if some of the “chicken fin boys” know how to turn right. : )…

The hydros could possibly run a tri-oval or even the normal short course. I know after 4 or 5 laps it can get a little bumpy, especially on a smaller course and with a lemans start. That’s for you hydro guys to decide.

However, for spectator purposes you may want to keep both hydros and runabouts on the normal short course. I think 12 boats stretched out over that entire lake might get stale.

Depending on the amount of entries, you may want to consider have 3 or 4 man/woman teams. Possibly having CSH, ASH, ASR, CSR… DSR?? haha… (I’m just hoping we get 12 D’s period)

As far as how the teams are selected. We drew them from a hat the last time I was in one. Other possibilities would be to everyone find their own team. However, this could leave some people out in the cold. This goes against the “new American socialist society” where everyone gets an equal amount; In which case we could also consider using the reverse finishing orders of the overall short course nationals. If you finished towards the top, you’d get a partner who finished towards the bottom. So even if you blew it in the short course, you might be looking forward to receiving a higher seed partner in the marathon.

On a side note… Dean, do you guys have any sort of tentative schedule for the nationals in general? I haven’t checked the website in a while, so disregard the question if it’s already been posted.

                            Josh

I still think the J's should not be included. Only because it is the end of the race schedule of the last day and the spectators want to see a little more action. Dean, your opinion matters a whole lot to me, but, if you read the previous posts, there are many other ideas that we should talk about at the meeting. Anywhere from several laps of hydros to including runabouts, or not, or where incoming pit lanes are to outgoing and safety concerns as well. Top "o" is a week after, and I haven't heard from a lot of runabout drivers as of yet. Let's keep this subject open and continue to get driver input until at least the end of this month, maybe a little longer. Thanks.
