I am glad my government keeps helping me with my daily decisions. I do not know what I would do without them..... Do you think TX would have a law like this?

Open letter to my government..... Give me roads, a military and basic social services and then be lazy at your job.

            Gents,
I'm so sorry for your club and all of the racers planning to attend Millville. What a great race.
Comment #1: We should get APBA to work with the US Coast Guard to "certify" all who hold a valid current APBA racing card. As part of our annual application the APBA sends out a "test" for each applicant to fill out and return. This updates our racing license annually, satisfies the Coast Guard, and I think the Federal endorsement will trump any state requirements. Comment #2 As a race director myself I can tell you that the state requirements for hosting a sanctioned event are more difficult each year. For instance at this year's Mod Nationals I had to get waivers and exemptions from the State of Ohio for above water exhaust, noise, speed limits, horsepower limits, EPA restrictions on emissions, fire extinquishers, lights, boat registration, horns, and some other BS that I can't remember......They just don't want us to race. Hang in there, we are smarter and have more incentive to be creative than these bureaucrats. Mike Marshall, Raceboat 61-S

              Another perspective on this canellation

I would hope that the local chamber of comerce would contact the officials who just put a stop to a pretty significant impact on the local economy. In the current climate, to willingly turn away tourist dollars seems simply insane. With vacations and travel being projected to be lower than it has been in a long time, this seems to really be a strange move. If you have an event that is bringing people and from the comerce perspective, dollars to your community, how can you possibly think of playing the hard line and turning people away.

How about turning this around and instead of checking to see who has certificates and turning others away, to instead use this as an opportunity to teach those without the training what they want them to know. What better way to spread the knowledge than put this situation as a positive. They could offer the instruction exactly as they want it taught. Besides providing a service, they would in a sense be helping the tourism side. Everybody wins.

Instead, we have lots of hard work for nothing, bad feelings that in my opinion are well founded, and one less event.

It is amazing how some very simple opportunities seem to go unfulfilled for the sake of ego and power.

              Just an opinion

I could not agree with Steve anymore than all the way! He is right, someone needs to call the local state rep/Senator/Chamber of Commerce/Mayor/councilman/hotels/eating establishments/the local drinking holes and put the pressure on these guys.

Sure safety is utmost, and I would trust-most-LOL you on course anywhere anytime. No one takes safety more importantly then racers. Typical, cradle to grave mentality.

                      Area Newspapers

As a local resident/ race fan I am extremely disappointed that the Millville race will not happen. I read both local papers everyday, and there is always some discussion of how we need tourist dollars in this area to stimulate the local economy. Hotels, restaurants, the Millville downtown arts district, the area motorsports park, all of these things need the infusion of tourist dollars. I think it stinks that the Marine police decided on Thursday to decide to enforce the Coast Guard regulation. Granted, this rule has been around a while, but I find it hard to believe why it never came up until now. As someone else said, there can be ways to accommodate the provisions of the law. I see New Jersey law enforcement's actions to be extremely short sighted, and I intend to write the newspaper to say so.

                        APBA License.................

I kinda wonder why my $200 APBA membership card doesn't surfice as a 'Boaters Safety" license?? Seems to me having a membership card from a world wide accredited racing organization would trump a local pleasure boat safety course?

Years ago flashing the APBA card would always get the DNR to sit back and enjoy watching our boats test. Guess times have changed. It is a shame APBA can't step in and get our cards classified as a 'Boaters Safety License'.

Sorry to hear some of the guys are still at the pits...........at least it is a nice warm day! Jeez.

Earl, have some bacon and eggs for me at the lodge

                        See ya

                          The law

                          From the New Jersey “Boating Safety Education & Minimum Age Mandatory Requirements” booklet;

Wow what a shame I really feel sorry for the folks who hit the road last night before checking HR.

Even though HR is not the official APBA web site please always encourage folks to check here for the latest news updates etc. before leaving home.

Not saying what's happened is right...but has anyone ever been pleasure boat on a busy waterway on a hot summer day or holiday? We take driving a boat for granted because we know (most of us anyway) what we're doing in a boat, unfortunately a lot of the folks boating don't have a clue when it comes to driving a boat.

I think the mandated tests are a good idea for the general public on an public waterway, BUT during a sanctioned race...well, that's just wrong and probably illegal.
