What about sanctioned SCCA races? Do the drivers need a NJ drivers license to participate in those races?

Dan,
The ball is in there court. If he said he was going to send patrolmen to check everyone's boating safety certs., we were not going to risk everyone showing up and than NOT racing. Even if he was wrong he still made that call, and to question the call of an officer is usually not something you want to do if you plan competing in the state. By doing what we did and handling it the way we did, I believe we now can use this Sgt. to help us understand these laws that prohibit us from racing and make sure this never happens again. All of this can be done without ruffling feathers, egos, etc...
These type rules existed the past couple years(ie: 2007 Divisional everyone under 30 needed one of these), however they never checked us because it was never stipulated in the permit to race.
I will defiantly be calling this Sgt. and finding out more on how and why he made this call, and how we can avoid this ever again.sigpic

Hey Matt, Perhaps an older person like Coach Scott G. should talk with them next time. They may think we are all young CRAZY speeders with cool boats. Just thinking of all angles to help. You know ME!Earl 11 J........ Dangerous when Wet Runne Craft- Earl said, " Driving a Runne Craft is like Cheating". Dude, ........ Where's My Boat!

I've been to Millville twice a year since I was a kid...I can guarantee the cops have better things to be preoccupied with than a couple of boatacers. Especially considering we've been racing there for over 50 years.
Region 4 is already having problems with attendance. Between this and the J issue, the state of New Jersey is making it a not so convenient place to race, pushing away new racers from Region 3 (which used to be the most heavily populated place for racers). Before we know it, half of the east coast is going to need to travel to regions 1, 2, and 5 to race.
...I know this is an external problem, but it's hurting the sport.
It's just a shame to see something like this happen.

Good job, Trenton. First, you get rid of kids. Now, EVERYBODY has to have your stupid safety cert to race. That is such a dumb-ass law.
Folks, you do realize, I hope, that without a legal challenge to these morons in Trenton they will not stop harassing boat racers. This is not the end of this. You wait. Without a court challenge you will be required to do more and more as time goes on. There will be nothing to stop them from requiring a horn and lights and a fire extinguisher, etc. What happened to the sanction exempting boat racers from pleasure boat requirements????? What a bunch of Trenton jackasses.
Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, that is) leaves a lot to be desired. I am the first to admit that. But even so, what a contrast to New Jersey. Over here (as a PA resident and APBA member) I can get a permit from the state to go testing and am exempted from ALL pleasure boat requirements, including noise. Over there you guys can't even race (or test) without a NJ safety certificate. AND YOU BETTER BE AT LEAST 16!!!!! Unbelievable.
You get what you vote for. Keep that in mind for your next election.Last edited by Heliarc; 04-25-2009, 01:36 PM.*

This cancellation sucked, but some of us thought we'd make the best of it. We had the weekend off from work, our trailers packed, so why not make a testing weekend out of it?
Jerry Davids and Joyce graciously invited us to their home in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Finishing up a boat and hanging out in the shop with some good people helped salvage the weekend. Greg Lyons, Abby Pond, Paulie Bosnich, Jerry Davids and Ryan Runne all went testing in Camden, NC and should be on their way home now. No pictures of that testing session because I decided to skip that and go to the beach instead
Not exactly pit pictures, but it was a good time.

Hey... whatever!!! For the time being.... at least.... we need to find a way to "comply" with what is required. We can piz and moan like the Harmony Sisters, but never get booked at a decent concert.
Personally, I'd like to race in NJ.... or anyplace else in a 600 mile range from the Kennebec River here in Maine. We don't have a friggen boater safety course here in ME but I will do my best to take a course from some other state.... and pass the MF er!! Just so's I have a stupid card to present to the A-thor-I-ties.
This aint my way of rolling over and giving up.... NOPE.... it's my way of saying OKAY anus-ventricle.... here's my freaking card..... Sir!! Now, may I go?
Always... always..., we must remember NOT to shoot the messenger ( like Sgt Bird who may have just done us one heck of a service!!!!!).

boating course
Hello, I have been teaching the boating course for close to 10 years now. The course that is mentioned on another posting and he forgot her name, is Janet and I do teaching for her. If a group wants to get together and you have a space (large house, fire hall or ems) we can set something up. I never thought of this with the racing issue. I will be teaching a course 3 May in Sparta and the 31 in Denville. Syd

Great pics Ally.
Is that boat in the kitchen or the shop? Growing up, the boats got sanded in our dining room. Oh, and he bathroom scale was in the garage. And there's still an old Merc on the stand in the living room to this day.
Good times.
P.S. Everybody up here went testing too. You know how I love to test!Twisted Sister
