Thank you Ross for the info. Not sure if this falls under your jurisdiction & maybe I have not looked into it far enough, but (I know some Region 10 is wondering) what are the entry fees for outboard classes at Western Stock Divisionals?

    Thanks

      Western Divisionals

      Hi Jim:

As you and everyone else are probably aware of APBA's insurer, K & K dropped them late last year and now we are back with ASIS (or ASIG one or the other) regardless, insurance rates have gone up by 20% across the board so unfortunately SCSC can't afford to discount entry fee's. I am still working on the projections for the pro-forma and it looks like the stock outboard entry fee's will be around $90 for the 1st class/day and $60 for the 2nd class and $40 for the 3rd class but don't hold me to this until I finalize the sanction (shortly).

I hope the racers in your region realize that we have much higher costs to promote races in our region than in Region 10 and this latest hit (insurance hike) didn't help matters.

I'll let everyone know when I finish the numbers and the sanction is done.

      Thanks for your question.

      Sincerely,

      Ross Wallach, Race Director SCSC

Double ouch. SOA has jumped up it's entry fees as well, but no where near these prices. I understand the Insurnace bit (i put on a race myself). But $90 bucks for a SO class? You'll be seeing a lot of folks (including me) only race their perticular classes on divisional days....$150, plus $1200 to drive down from Washington is enough for me....The things we do for our sport

Higher costs to promote the race? OR to actually put the race on (i.e bottom line costs)? Considering to put on Lake Lawrence in the fall it is over 10K. We have entry fees still starting at $45. And usually break even. Are us Stock outboarders coming to your race for our divisional paying for the inboard insurance rate (crackers and flatbottoms are on the sanction)? Which are drastically higher. I think thats a fair question.

The last Shadow Cliffs race was at least $60 for the first entry.

To Quote My Brother, "Boat Racing Isn't Cheap"

When is the last time you went to Disneyland? We had free ticket to get in, free dinner once we got in. Once we found where we were going, paid to park, and walked forty miles. I bought about six glasses of wine......Spent a HUNDRED BUCKS...and Dinner was FREE. Entry tickets were free.

I have not been back and probably won't go again!

Expenses are like taxes, we need to grow our base. If we had 200 boats at a race you could charge $25 entry fee.....a day and make money. We don't have 200 boats.

                    Why Arizona? Why with Inboards?

I may be speaking out of turn because I mainly run Pro but I do run stock often enough and my comment can apply to the pro divisional. I am just wondering how many Sothern cal/Arizona stock outboard racers are there? Are racers from WA going to travel all the way to Arizona to race against their neighbors and no one else? Wouldn’t it be a better idea to have the divisionals where we have racers and where the entry fees are reasonable for outboards? *If there are more racers down there then I know of, then never mind *

Don’t get me wrong it will be nice to travel down to the worm weather but for the racers that cannot afford to go, they will miss out on a divisional race. It will also reduce the number of racers and most likely there will not be enough to qualify for national spots or HOC points.

I know people will probably still go regardless where, when or how much (including myself) but it would be nice if it was set up for the clubs that have the racers, to have the divisionals.

                        Mike:

The last time we conducted a race at Shadow Cliffs I believe the first entry fee was around $45. To the best of my knowledge ( 11 years as NCOA commodore ) we have never hit the $60 mark.

                          Ron,
That is a great group of A hydros! I know you guys have been working hard promoting that class. So never mind…. Still might suck for any runabouts and D hydro.

I am just a bit disappointed because I wanted to go down and run C hydro and C runabout (provide another entrée for my little buddy Kyle) (put some boats on the water!) but with $90 entry fees I would only run one class, one day. Not sure it’s worth the drive. You travel that far, you want to spend some time racing.

                          Will there be testing?
Maybe some Prize money or Fireworks Show? An Awesome Beer Garden or good looking Trophy Girls? There has to be some kind of bonus for $90!

sure miss that place!! I would pay $90 for the entry fee if the Divs were there!!! Just too far AND EXPENSIVE to drive all the way to Parker for a questionable boat turnout...........really want to try out the new DSH in race trim!!

kyle makes a good point. just from the outside it looks like travel costs and hotel rooms are being thrown into the bottom line. this isn't the good ole' days. i know as a race director my costs are a donation to the club because i love the sport. i'm pretty sure that's the status quo in our region.

just making a comparison. i've never been to a better run race than nationals at wakefield last year. first class all the way. i think the cost was 45 bucks. i've been offered a ride for my boat to parker. not sure we will muster enough D's to make a class but 90 bucks isn't helping.

i'm not being negative. just stating an opinion. hope i'm surprised and you guys can hit it out of the park.
