Questions
Would Region 10 racers come down to Region 11 Oroville June event if it was a 3/4 mile record course?

Would Region 10 Racers come to our May Salt Springs race if we had a 1/4 mile Time Trial on Friday and a closed course race on Saturday/Sunday?

I'm going to a 3/4 Mile race no matter what this year. Washington, California, Ohio, where ever.

Could you explain the 1/4 mile Time Trial like I'm the six-year-old my gf accuses me of being? A short Kilo?

Race sponsorship

What is the cost of a sponsorship?

$500 to cover my rescue expenses would be perfect, but I can probably work with whatever comes up.

That body of water should hold just about whatever size course you want to throw in there, and I'd say you'd definitely get some region 10ers dragging down there with the right size course.

Well. We have 3/4, 1 mile and 1 1/4 course approved at the race site. It will take the Dodges paid expenses if they are willing and available. I will not pursue it any further if we cannot get a turnout to offset our expenses and realize a small profit for the hosting club.

I will put up $1000.00 to put Lake Lytle in the place of Moses. Myself I would rather go to LYTLE AND GET BLOWN OFF BOTH DAYS than go to Moses and get blown off one day. Steve August QUINAULTRACING

Steve, that's a nice and generous offer. That being said, the events are held by 2 different organizations: CORA runs Rockaway and SOA runs Moses Lake. I'm fairly confident that the losses that CORA sustained at Rockaway far exceeded $1000. Perhaps one of our CORA members can clarify.

As for Moses, not sure what you're talking about: We haven't had a blowoff at Moses for at least the past 3 times that I can recall. We came close to a blow off last year, but everybody got all their heats in on both days.

have not gone back

after getting blown two times the years before I told myself I was never going that far to get blown off again. The only way I would ever go back is if we can get five 250s to show. I do not have very many years of racing left in me and I would like to race every racing I can. The closer to home the better. Pat if you wanted to put a race on at Lytle you could. You just can not have four races in five weeks it take the want to out of people that are not point racers. Steve

Knowing the job is dangerous when you took it

Unfortunately, blow-offs are a very real possibility at just about anywhere we race at, Steve. For anyone, it's a long way to go for a blow off, but that's part of the inherent risk of our sport.

I recall a year when people travelled A LOT further than Moses for Nationals, Winternationals or other races. It always sucks, but what are you going to do? Tell Mother Nature that you have the Upper Hand by letting her win and staying home? Doesn't seem very productive to me; nor does it help to support our sport by choosing not to go to a race.

I'm sure that the people who did attend Moses the past several years will tell you, and the other 250 drivers, and anyone else who didn't attend the event how they liked the weather.

But if you don't TRY, where are you? Home, I guess.....

To piggyback what Pat said regarding Moses Lake. As you know Steve, up here in the northwest there are no guarantees regarding wind and weather at many of our races...kind of a crap shoot. But I will say that over the last few years I have had to deal more with sunburn then windburn at Moses Lake. Plus Saturday night at the casino, bowling with racing friends and family is always a treat.

we (cora) lost over twice that much. rockaway is a super cool race but just not a good draw late in the season. people (myself included) are tapped out from racing that now starts april 1st. the small pit area isn't conducive to camping in on site. therefore 100/night hotel expense is the only option. it's just too far and too costly to expect mass participation from the seattle folks (that we need to break even and help run the race).

hats off to tony for securing eatonville for the april fools regatta. that site is soo much fun and the new owners are a too good to be true.

it appears there may be a couple months we don't have anything scheduled in region 10 this summer (if not racing nationals). maybe we might want to plan a group trip to a region 11 race? a lot of pro and mod racers seem to be looking to get a little more action.

Thanks to the leadership of Region 10 for putting together a tentative race schedule so soon. We plan to race more next year and this allows us to start saving up some money to pay off our van's brake bills and hull repainting. Capitol Lake & 2011 Racing Season Schedule

Three years ago I talked to the Thurston County Parks department management about the lakes in the county that we have used for boat racing. At that time they told me that Capitol Lake would be turned back into a swampy estuary(sp?) body of water at the request of several environmental activist groups (and several senior WA legislative members who are sympathetic to the environmental extremists.) I hate to see the lake left to turn acidic and contaminated like it is becoming. It has been used for years to teach young children around Olympia how to swim and for other general public water recreation purposes other than just boat racing. It would take a miracle (and new governor, county executive, and mayor with a special concern for restoring Olympia) to turn things around and clean the lake up (it also has leaches in it.) Such a waste of a beautiful marine resource, but it fits right in with the way downtown Olympia has degenerated into a haven for drug dealers, transients, and wanna-be flower children (we go to Olympia at least twice a month, and I was born in Olympia).

I also regret not seeing Lake Lytle on the schedule after racing there last season, but I understand that we (CORA) cannot sustain big money losses on any boat racing sanction. I like running at Moses Lake (at the other City Park site) in the bay where the APBA Nationals were held a few years ago (great pit facilities.) The airman's park works great for the inboard pits, but lacks good launching areas for outboards and gets much rougher than the other park. The casinos and motels in the area have sponsored races at both parks.

Thanks for posting the Region 10 schedule. I will attend those local and California races that my PRO 250ccH class will run at with a minimum of three confirmed entries for at least one day of the event, whatever location for the sanction. The only race site I am concerned about is Mayfield Lake because the pits are not directly facing the course for full power PRO boat launches, and the floating fallen wood debris settles around the race course at that end of the lake that early in the spring each year. I like the power utility's park campgrounds and huge boat ramp area in the middle of the reservoir better the the state park facilities at the north end, but the power utility managers claim they cannot rope off and reserve their larger beach facilities solely for a function like ours.
