Good stuff Pat.............kinda reminded me of 'Woodstock'. Lol.
Back then we didn't worry about pointy pickles or Kevlar. How cool to see the pic of McCabe (47-B) and Pontious (32-P) going at it in CSR. Don Pontius could make Ron Hill tremble with fear in those days
Can't believe that was 40 years ago and yes I was there...
Who are the guys carrying the 43-S?... It appears to be a Q-Craft. I had one then as did Larry Wagner, Dave Martino, John Loomer and the Wheeler's (I think?)....
The 43-S belonged to Jerry Kayle, he's the one on the right corner, the other is Jim Hartley. not sure who is on the front. both Jim and Jerry were long time trora members
Jerry Kale is the owner/driver carrying the back of the boat.
The other guy is Jim Hartley.
Both members of TRORA.
After watching that video yesterday, thought about what drivers who raced there are still driving as of 2013/2014.
I can only reference the list of finalists in Speed 'n Spray and own memory. Need some help here from Capt. America and others a little older than me.
40 years later and still racing:
Carl Holt
Dave Bennett
Tom Johnston
Tom Sutherland
Cooper Jess
Andy Hansen
Tim Sidor
Billy Simmons
Pete Nichols
Bobby Austin
Craig Bowman
Jeff Brewster
George Stillwill, Jr.
Billy Allen
John Runne
Rich Runne
Tom Smith
Matt D'Agostino---did the Capt. have his stripes yet?
Chip Fuller ?
Earl Desiato ?
Mel Thomas ?
Fred Hauenstein---or was he only racing Pro at the time?
Steve Noury?
Larry Gottschalk?

Dean Hobart... 302SS Hydro, C-Mod Hydro (A Stock Hydro then)
Regretfully I did not make it to 1974 Dayton. I had just graduated from college and took a position in the Banking Industry. It would have been difficult to ask for a week off after being employed for three weeks! If I had known the magnitude of the event, I would have turned down the job!!
What sticks out in my mind the most from that nationals were all the A's. It seemed like we had A's on the water the whole time I was there.
Also, Ron Thomas ran 4 or 5 heats to win the 25ssr. They had clock problems or something and the region 7 folks thought it was a conspiracy so he wouldn't win.
Gee Matt, I didn't you know you were so old. I was 11 at the time of this race.
